George William Paxman
1933 ~ 2018

George William Paxman passed away peacefully on May 17, 2018 surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born on July 24, 1933 in Nephi, Utah. He always joked that everyone celebrated his birthday because he was so special (July 24th). He was born to William James Paxman and Vivian Florence Tranter. He had fond memories of growing up in Scipio and Nephi, Utah. He loved the mountains, riding horses, and spending time with his family. He was a peacekeeper, never wanting contention or issues that caused family stress. He worked hard at everything he did, whether it was construction, farming, raising six kids plus two foster children, to teaching school. He often said that if someone else could do it, he could learn how to do it, too.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Nephi Horse Club. Served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955 in Germany during the Korean War and then served a LDS mission from 1956-1958 in Southern California. After his mission he married Norma Betty Andersen in 1958 and had seven children together: Robert (Salee) Paxman, Barbara (Steve) Hannett, Connie (Shawn) Hannett, Jack Paxman, David Paxman, Andrea (Kenny) Kay, and Valerie Belknap.

He worked for the US Forest Service for several years where he learned to hate skunk weed. He first attended BYU and then Utah State University earning his teaching degree. He was a beloved teacher first in Ogden, Utah and then Nephi, Utah as an elementary teacher. After retiring from teaching he worked as a boat captain on the Colorado River in Moab, Utah.

He met Janet Rosella Daley while they were both working for Canyonlands By Night and Day in Moab. They were married in August of 2002 on the Colorado River and later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 2004 which added another four children to the family: Julie Stewart (deceased), Debi (Larry) Fleenor, Dan Jenkins, and Lily (Scott) Houtz.

He was preceded in death by his parents William and Vivian Paxman, his sons Robert, Jack, and David Paxman, and his daughter Julie Stewart. He is survived by his sister Florence (Leo) Memmott, his brothers Richard (Karen) Paxman, Preston (Debbie) Paxman, Bert (Sandra) Paxman, brothers-in-law Robert (Bob) Daley, Joe Daley, and sister-in-law Lilian O'Hara, his children, Barbara, Connie, Andrea, Valerie, Debi, Dan, and Lily; as well as by 33 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Nephi First Ward Chapel. Interment will be at Vine Bluff Cemetery in Nephi, Utah.

Romaine H. Mangelson
1927 ~ 2018

Romaine Hatfield Mangelson passed away peacefully at home on May 20, 2018 at the age of 90. Romaine was born in Levan, Utah, December 27, 1927 to Reuben A. C. and Nettie Irene Mangelson. Being the youngest of three siblings, he is survived by his older brother Golden (Irene) Mangelson and preceded in death by his sister Lois (Jack) Brough.

He married his high-school sweetheart, Pauline Anderson, on April 4, 1950 in the Manti Temple, and together they had three children. Romaine was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who was full of life. Telling stories and making people laugh was one of his greatest loves.

Romaine spent his career working many jobs including farming, being a butcher, and working in the NRP Manufacturing Plant in Nephi. Romaine was an avid hunter, fisherman, and “ugly, old trapper” in his later years. When asked about his best day fishing, his favorite saying was “every day fishing was my best day fishing.”

He and Pauline wintered in St. George after he retired. They had and made many great friends wherever they went. In the spring of 2013, he lost the love of his life Pauline. Even though the last five years have been filled with the love of his family and friends, he talked almost daily about how he “missed mama.”

Romaine will be greatly missed, but we rejoice in knowing that we will be with him and Pauline again. He is survived by his three children: Celia (Cindy), Adele, and Parks (Todd); 5 grandsons: Jacob (Orjola) Stokes, Hans (Amy) Stokes, Ethan (Rachel) Stokes, Spencer Stokes and Tyler Stokes: and 5 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the LDS Levan Ward. A viewing will be held at the Anderson Funeral Home, 94 W. 300 N. in Nephi, Friday, May 25, 2018 from 6-8pm. Friends and family may call 1 hour prior to the services at the church. Internment will be held at the Levan Cemetery immediately following the services.

The family would like to express appreciation for the exceptional care from Heather Bailey CNA, Marie Dinger RN (Nurse Humdinger), and Brandon Aegerter LCSW for their love, kindness and unending support.

Annette Howarth Kendall
1937 ~ 2018

Our beloved Mother, Grandma, Aunt and Friend, Goldie Annette Howarth Kendall, completed her life time of service here on earth May 16th, 2018. Annette was born in Nephi, UT June 23, 1937. The youngest of seven children to George Gregory and Goldie Alice Irons Howarth.

She grew up and attended Nephi schools, graduating from Juab High School in 1955. She married Terry Kendall in 1955. Together they had 3 children: Jim, Jerry and Kelly. They later divorced.

In 1961, Annette went to nursing school and received her LPN license and began working for Juab County Hospital, now known as CVMC. In 1977, she went back to school to receive her RN license and associate degree. She worked as a nurse in Nephi for 46 years serving and helping others in the community she loved. Many in the community have benefitted from her knowledge and care.

Annette also served the community as an EMT and was a crew member for many years on the ambulance. She was awarded the “United States John Henry Award” for EMT of the year.

Her medical profession created many lifelong friendships with mutual admiration.

Even though Annette loved her profession and enjoyed going to work, her greatest joy came from her family and extended family, which included nephews and nieces and the neighbor kids. When her kids were young, work did not make it possible for her to always attend the activities they were involved in, but she always made sure that they had everything they needed and $5 in their pocket for just in case. She taught her children the value of honest hard work, life was to be enjoyed, you make your own happiness and all choices have consequences. After retiring she jokingly referred to herself as a bleacher bum as she went to watch her grandkids in what they were doing. She loved and cherished time spent with family and friends.

After retiring she still felt the need to serve the community. She joined the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and spent many hours sorting and compiling history. She loved the work of preserving history for future generations. She loved to travel and was a true Jazz fan to the very end.

Annette was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. She had a testimony of the Gospel and became a student of the scriptures in her later years.

Annette was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings and one grandson, JC Reed.

Annette is survived by her two sons, Jim (Marion) and Jerry (Carla) Kendall, one daughter Kelly (Brian) Hansen, all of Nephi, 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and many who called her Aunt and Friend.

Funeral services were held Monday May 21, 2018.
