Ellis Dee Kay
1934~2016

Ellis Dee Kay, 82, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, May 22, 2016.
Born and raised in Mona, Utah, the son of Claude Maurice and Savina (Ina) Rowe Kay January 3, 1934. Ellis served an LDS mission in New Zealand from 1954-1956, after which he married his "angel" Georgina Smith in the LDS Temple in Manti, Utah on August 11, 1958. Ellis served in the 82nd Airborne from 1957-1959 completing 23 jumps and earning the title of Top Gun with the BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle).
Known to anyone he interacted with as honest, fair and hardworking, he ran a successful construction business that supported his family and built homes for hundreds of people.
His faith and hope in the gospel of Jesus Christ was unfailing, true, and he lived it every day of his life. He has served in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, including Bishop of the 2nd Ward of the Liberty Stake in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ellis thoroughly enjoyed serving in the Jordan River Temple and worked in the baptistry for over 19 years straight until his health made such service impossible.
Ellis was most at home in the outdoors, enjoying camping, hunting, fishing, and rock hunting. He was fond of his garden, which he worked in diligently up until just a few months before his passing. His family and friends always looked forward to the fruits and vegetables from his garden that he freely shared.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Georgina (Smith) Kay, their children Lisa (Jon) Miles, Warren (Dottie) Kay, Troy Kay, Michelle (Todd) Thorup and Stephanie Kay, 12 grandchildren, 4, soon-to-be 5 great-grandchildren, and his sister Margo Taylor.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, May 27, 2016 in the South Jordan 3rd Ward, 9750 S. 2200 W. Family and friends may call from 9:30-10:45 am prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Mona City Cemetery at 2pm. Full obituary at www.andersonfh1866.com
