Randy Freston

Randy Lynn Freston, beloved brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, husband and friend returned to his Heavenly Father, Thursday, March 19, 2015 after a valiant battle with a debilitating auto-immune disease. He was 69. The void he leaves is keenly felt.
Randy was bron to Jessie Vernal Freston and Dora Lucretia Jenkins of Roosevelt, Utah, where he spent his youth. Randy lived more of life in 69 years than most people do in two lifetimes. He knew the art of engaging stories of his many travels and of his fascinating friends and family. He was quick to laugh, had a keen sense of humor, and a gentle and kind heart. He loved animals and always owned a dog or two. He will sorely missed by friends and family the world over.
Raised on a farm his work ethic was beyond reproach, helping with the farm and spending many days on the cattle trail. His first paying job was at the Roosevelt Sales Barn when he was only 11 years old. He had a long and illustrious career as a Civil Engineer and owned and partnered his own engineering firms for 35 years. He married Ann Dye Paskett in 1964 and together they raised four amazing children. They later divorced. He later married Annette Oldaker in 1997 and they lived in Vernal, Utah for 10 years before moving to Kingman, Arizona in 2008.
Randy's work took him all over the world. He engineered and managed too many projects to list in Utah and in several states across the country. He also worked in Afghanistan and South America on several projects. Later he moved his work for Rocky Mountain Telecom, working in Texas, Arizona and Utah.
Randy was a skilled and avid trapshooter. He was President of the Amateur Trapshooting Association in 1989 and served for many years as vice-president. He was inducted into the Utah Trapshooting Hall of Fame in 2000. He had countless shooting friends whose company he reveled in at the many trap shoots he attended. His shooting ranked world-class and he won countless events and awards. He was an amazing coach and his talent as a gifted teacher will long be reflected in the skill of his students.
For a man with such a remarkable career, it pales in comparison to how he will be remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He had the bluest eyes and a gentle smile. His engaging laughter and amazing life adventures will echo in our hearts and warm us as we face our loss and celebrate his life. He loved his children more than life itself.
Randy is survived by his wife of 17 years, Annette Freston; his four children, Cynthia (Dale) Peterson of Layton, Utah; Teri (Flynn) Paulson of Salt Lake City, Utah; Kimberly (Weston) Weaver; Randy Lynn (Holly) Freston, II; and his oldest brother Dorrant (Elberta) Freston, all of Roosevelt, Utah; his two stepchildren, Jennifer (Rhett) Perrett of Las Vegas, NV; and Steven Gardiner of Las Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Wendall and Boyd, and sisters Verna Durfee and Norma Clark. Randy leaves 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Roosevelt West Stake Center LDS Chapel located at 150 South Skyline Drive, Roosevelt, Utah. A viewing will be held Sunday evening March 29, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary, 457 East 300 North, Roosevelt, Utah. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services.
