The grant application submitted on behalf of Juab County Commissioners to obtain funds for improving the Mona Reservoir Park Access Improvement Project was approved for funding by the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation.

"I recently received word that the project had been approved for funding this year, 2000," said Mike Seely, county administrator.

In the grant application, Juab County Commissioners requested a total of $90,000 for the construction of a sanitary public toilet, a concrete motorboat access ramp and a parking area with asphalt paving, a courtesy dock, fire rings, picnic tables and trash receptacles replacement.

"Of that total," said Seely, "the Wallop-Breaux Motorboat Access fund will contribute $67,500."

In addition, the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation will provide $11,250.

"Juab County is to provide equipment, manpower and road base equivalent to $11,250 as their share of the project," said Seely.

"It was exciting to see the grant come through," he said. "Robert H. Cowdell, Aquatic Habitat Coordinator for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources said that we could re-submit the access portion of the project again this fall to be considered for funding in 2001."

Commissioners said they were pleased that the portion of the project which had been funded included the sanitary provisions.

"The sanitary public toilet was our biggest concern," said Robert Steele, commissioner. "So I am happy they will fund that part of the project."

Commissioners directed Mike Seely to prepare the information which must be submitted before the project construction can take place.

Cowdell requested a copy of the Corps of Engineers 404 permit, a detailed map of the area showing the site where the facilities will be constructed, construction drawings for the restrooms, parking area (with asphalt), the motorboat access ramp, and detailed cost breakdown for each of the items, including the trash receptacles.

"Cowdell said we also need to prepare a cooperative agreement identifying all the parties and their contribution to the proposed project," said Seely.

It will take approximately six weeks from the time Cowdell receives the needed information until Federal Aid will approve funding.

The project has been referred to Make Talbot, water projects engineer, to have the engineering for the dock completed. "Our preliminary estimate for a concrete restroom facility is $20,000," said Seely.
