Nephi City has contacted property owners who may be
affected by the airport property acquisition to notify them
that they may contact the state ombudsman for help.
"In its dealings with property owners affected by
property acquisition needs of the airport project, Nephi
City has reminded the property owners of the services
available to them through the State of Utah's Private
Property Ombudsman," said Chad Brough, mayor.
He said all of those property owners who might be
affected had been contacted and at least two of the property
owners had asked for the assistance of the ombudsman.
"The ombudsman's office was created by the legislature
to five assistance to the owners of private property that is
affected by the actions of government entities," said Randy
McKnight, city administrator.
The city is actively participating in the ombudsman's
processes in order to help assure that property owners are
fairly compensated.
"A second appraisal is being obtained and the original
appraisal is being updated," said McKnight. In addition, the
ombudsman's office may also supply a mediator or arbitrator
if needed.
"The second appraisal is being done through the
ombudsman's office," said Brough. "Using the services of the
office is a good thing for property owners."
