Mildred Garret Nielsen
1915~2013


The champion bingo player of Levan's Victorian House, Mildred Garret Nielsen, age 98, has cleared her card and gone home.
Mildred was born December 29, 1915 in Nephi Utah, the third child of John Charles and Pearl Beatrice Ingram Hall. She had two older siblings, Ray and Delma, and later came Norma, Tom, and Betty.
Life was fun growing up in Nephi, with plenty of friends and neighbors to play with. Mildred skipped right by third grade, and graduated from Juab High School in 1934. She was an award winning swimmer and a recognized scholar.
At Snow College, she caught the eye of Wallace Garrett, a member of the school basketball team. The couple was married in the Manti Temple on June 27, 1935. They built their first home in Nephi, and their daughter Barbara was born there. Later, a son Michael and daughter Mary Margaret were added to the family.
Mildred had many church positions: Junior Sunday School Coordinator, Primary President, Young Women's President, and many stake callings. She was a recognized 4-H leader, teaching many girls to sew and taking them to camp every summer at Camp Dad and Sons. She was active in community affairs. She was president of the Lady J.C.'s, built Ute Stampede floats, and sewed many Miss Nephi formals.
Wallace died suddenly on June 5, 1978. Following his death, Mildred served a mission in Oakland, California. Six years later, she married Merlin Nielsen of Moroni. They served a mission in West Virginia. They moved to Provo and made many good memories and friends in the Edgemont 7th Ward. Merlin died on June 26, 2004. A few years later, Mildred moved to the Victorian House in Levan where she renewed acquaintances with former co-workers and friends from Nephi.
She is survived by her daughters Barbara (Morris) Ostler, and Mary (Ray) Pfeifer, a daughter-in-law Ruth Ann Garrett George, a sister Betty Grange, 13 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren. A son, Michael preceded her in death.
A viewing will be held Friday evening, January 3rd from 6:00-8:00 at the Anderson Funeral Home, 94 West 300 North Nephi, UT. A viewing will be held Saturday from 10:00-11:00, with her funeral following at the Edgemont 7th ward building 555 East 3230 North Provo, UT. Burial will be at the Vine Bluff Cemetery in Nephi at 3:00.


Dwain R. Bracken
1927~2013


Dwain Ray Bracken, age 86, passed away December 27, 2013 in Levan, Utah.
He was born February 27, 1917 in Nephi, Utah to Rulon Heber and Tacy Johanna Irons Bracken. He married Joyce Margaret Huber June 26, 1949 in the Manti Temple.
He graduated from Juab High School and served in the Army Air Force during WWII. He graduated from Utah State University received his Master Degree from BYU and taught school for 35 years. He was active in the LDS church and served in many callings. He served as a Manti Temple worker for 14 years.
He is survived by his wife Joyce; children, Steven (Joy); Mark (Debbie); Matthew (Nylene); Rebecca; Deborah (David) Mosteller; MaryAnn (Mark) Bradley; 42 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his brother, Newell; sister, Glenna; parents; his son John and grandson John David.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Tuesday, December 31, 2013 in the Nephi 5th Ward, 345 East 500 North. Family and friends may call Monday evening from 6-8 pm at the Anderson Funeral Home, 94 West 300 North and at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Nephi Vine Bluff Cemetery.
