Neil O. Monroe
Neil O. Monroe died Dec. 7,1999, in Nephi, Utah,
after suffering a heart attack. He was born on July 14,
1924, in Scipio, Utah, to Irvin G. and Virga Olsen
Monroe. He married Edith Memmott on May 21, 1947, in
Scipio. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti
LDS Temple.
Neil was a member of the LDS Church, where he
served in many callings: Scoutmaster, Elders Quorum
President, Sunday School Presidency and a teacher, MIA
Presidency, High Priest Group Leader, High Council and a
member of the bishopric for 10 years. He served his
community as Mayor of Scipio for 10 years, Secretary of
the Scipio Irrigation Company for 37 years and 3 years in
the armed forces during World War II. He loved sports,
fishing, and his life as a rancher.
He is survived by his wife of Scipio; one son and
three daughters, Ray (Amy) Monroe of Orem, Diana (Tucker)
Conley of Longview, Texas, Jerris (Melvin) Bennett, and
Melanie (Jim) Dolan, all of Nephi; 22 grandchildren; and
11 greatgrandchildren; 2 brothers and two sisters Jack
(Lola) Monroe, Dix (Georgia) Monroe, Beaulah (Sheldon)
Quarnberg, all of Scipio, and Beth (Blaine) Fernelius of
Salt Lake City.
Services were held on Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999, in
Scipio, Utah. Internment in the Scipio Cemetery.
