The Central Utah Water Conservancy District (CUWCD) has
begun the federal planning process to complete the Utah Lake
System.
The future of the promised Juab County project is still
in limbo.
"I understand the scoping meetings held earlier this year
revealed the possibility that previously planned facilities
might not be built," said Robert F. Bennett, (R) United
States Senator from the state of Utah.
Concerns regarding the Central Utah Project and
additional water development for the communities of south
Utah and Juab Counties have filtered through to Bennett at
his office in Washington D.C.
"My staff has been in contact with the leaders at the
CUWCD to gain a better understanding of this situation,"
said Bennett. "We have learned that the CUWCD has not yet
made a decision on the future of the specific infrastructure
to be built and will not do so until it has completed
planning for the Utah Lake System."
Bennett said that during this planning process it is
important that the CUWCD be committed to working with the
East Juab communities to develop new reliable water sources
to meet needs associated with growth.
He said he will closely monitor this situation to keep
abreast of new developments.
"I encourage you to contact the CUWCD and the Central
Utah Project Completion Office and to participate in the
planning process," Bennett said.
