Timothy Bowers-Irons
Timothy Hoyt Bowers-Irons passed away on Dec. 4, 2002. He
was born to Mathew and Buelah Hoyt Bowers in Nephi, Utah, on
Oct. 2, 1915. He married Doris Warren on June 15, 1940, in
the Manti LDS Temple.
Tim was one of the first Eagle Scouts in Nephi. He
served a mission in South Africa from 1935-1938. He
graduated from Snow College then received his BS degree in
psychology from BYU. He took graduate work in psychology at
the University of Washington and graduate work in
anthropology at the University of Utah.
Tim joined the National Guard at age 16 and entered
Army service in 1943. He retired as a Lt. Col. in 1968. He
was the first enlisted man (private) to receive a Chaplain's
commission (Lt.) in an overseas combat area. He served in
North Africa, Sardinia, Corsica, Italy, France, Germany, and
Korea. He was responsible for receiving and distributing
tons of clothing for the Koreans through his Chaplain Tim's
Clothing Drive.
He participated in an inspection assignment to the
Nazi Nardhausen death camp.
Tim supered in operas in Washington D.C. He danced
with the Angeola Sartoria Ballet Co. He was a published
poet. He was a lifeguard in Harbor Springs, MI. Tim worked
at the Pacific States Cast Iron Plant Five Foot Shake-out.
He drove a taxicab in Provo.
Tim was an assistant gardener and ordinance worker at
the Manti Temple. He was seminary principal in St. Johns and
Round Valley, Arizona, and Coalville. He was a high
councilman and first counselor for the Branch President of
the first Wymount Branch for married students at BYU.
Tim was a rancher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his
step-father, Amos Irons; 3 sisters, Julia Ruth Bowers,
Shirley Smurthwaite, and Mary Lind Godell; one half-brother,
Keith Vorwaller. Tim is survived by his wife, Doris; two
daughters and three sons, Dr. Sanoma (Dr. Roger) Goodwill,
Timothy W. (Gail) Bowers-Irons, Richard (Amy) Irons, Celeste
Bowers-Irons, and Harley (Doreen) Bowers-Irons; 6
grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 3 step-grandchildren; 12
step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Utah Veteran's
Memorial Park at Camp Williams, Utah, on Dec. 9, 2002.
Interment and full military honors followed.
Michelle Lovell
Michelle Denise Lovell, age 18, of Nephi, Utah, died Dec.
9, 2002, in Orem, Utah, from injuries sustained in an auto
accident. She was born Feb. 6, 1984, in Provo, Utah, to
Gordon Nixon and Annette Johnson Lovell.
Michelle grew up in Nephi. She graduated from Juab
High School in May 2002, where she was a cheerleader and a
member of the drill team. She was also a member of the track
team. She had been attending college at Utah Valley State
College in Orem.
Michelle was a member of the LDS Church. She loved to
read and ride four-wheelers.
She is survived by her parents of Nephi; brothers,
Brandon (Karen) Lovell of Spanish Fork, Brett Lovell of
Nephi; sisters, Kristine (Dan) Nielson, and Nichole Lovell,
all of Nephi; grandparents, Dan and Madeliene Johnson of
Nephi.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 13, 2002,
at 12:00 in the Nephi Utah Stake Center, 351 North 100 West.
Family and friends may call Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
at the Nephi Utah Stake Center, and from 10:30 until 11:45
a.m. prior to the funeral.
