Effie Anderson

Effie Christina Bean Anderson, age 91, passed away Nov. 28, 2001, in Payson, Utah.

She was born Mar. 24, 1910, in Levan, Utah, to Martin C. and Christina Johanna Christensen Stephensen. She married Mont G. Bean May 17, 1929. He died July 13, 1963. They were later sealed in the Manti LDS Temple. She married Andrew Anderson Mar. 4, 1971. He died Sept. 13, 1977.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. She enjoyed working in her yard.

She is survived by her children, Leola Stewart of West Valley, Merle B. (Jim) Downey of Benjamin, Gordon R. (Teresa) Bean of St. George; 22 grandchildren; 81 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Arlin (Nellie) Stephensen, and Meril (Myrtis) Stephensen. She was preceded in death by brothers, Lavern and Clem Stephensen; sister, Lucille Stephensen; 4 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Dec. 1, 2001, in the Nephi 5th Ward. Interment in Vine Bluff Cemetery Nephi, Utah.


Nona Smith

Nona Stevens Smith died in Salt Lake City, Utah, Dec. 2 2001, from complications following a stroke. She was ninety-three.

Nona was born in Ferron, Utah, Mar. 28, 1908, to Eleazer Stevens and Annie Caroline Swenson. She spent her childhood years in Ferron.

Nona graduated from Carbon County High School in 1927, just three months after her father was killed in a snow slide. That July she began working for Mountain States Telephone Company as a telephone operator. She later became a Telephone Company State Instructor. She worked for the Telephone Company 35 years, becoming a supervisor, retiring in 1963.

Nona married James Walter Smith May 25,1956, their wedding solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married twenty-seven years. They resided in Nephi, Utah, in James's childhood home. James passed away Jan. 4, 1984.

An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ, Nona served as Ward Primary President, Stake Primary President, and Ward Relief Society President. She was a member of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

Nona didn't have children, so she became "second mother" to twenty-seven nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 12 noon, Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, in the Nephi Stake Center, 251 North 100 West. Friends may call Wednesday prior to services from 10 a.m.-11:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Vine Bluff Cemetery Nephi, Utah.


George Burridge

George Thomas Burridge, age 70, died Nov. 23, 2001, of heart and lung complications in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born in Castlegate, Utah, Dec. 1, 1930, to Theol Lorenzo and Jane Wanda Christison Burridge. His father died when Tom was 2. He was reared in Nephi, Utah, near his grandparents, Parley Pratt and Harriet Jane Adams Christison.

He married Sandra Lee Heath Apr. 24, 1955. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple April 1, 1963.

Tom was a member of the Utah Highway Patrol, 1954-1984. He and Sandra, raised their family for 23 years in Brigham City, Utah. They moved to Price, Utah, in 1979 when he achieved the rank of Lt. and became Zone Commander of Carbon, Emery, Grand and San Juan Counties. He was a past President of the UHP Retired Association.

Tom was a member of the Utah National Guard for 40 years. He served in Korea 1950-1952 with Btty S, 145th Field Artillery. He achieved the rank of Command Sergeant Major and retired as the first Commandant of Region V Military Academy at Camp Williams, Utah, 1990. The family moved to Riverton, Utah in 1984.

Tom loved sports, hunting, and fishing. He played on volleyball, bowling, basketball, baseball and softball teams, mostly as first baseman, pitcher and coach. He sang in a quartet. He loved golfing.

For the past seven years he served as a Court Security Officer for the U.S. Marshall's Service at the Frank E. Moss Federal Courthouse in Salt Lake City. Prior to that time he served on a Federal Grand Jury for eighteen months.

Tom was serving as first assistant in High Priest's Group at Elm Meadows Ward, North Riverton LDS Stake.

Tom is survived by Sandra; six children, Tom Jr. (Debbie), Melissa, Jonathan (Toni), James, Jennifer (Anthony) Chavis, Timothy (Marissa); 17 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters Jayne Springer of Salt Lake City, Barbara Strong of Stansbury Park, Kathryn Neuwald of San Rafael, California. He was preceded in death by two infant sons, David and William; a granddaughter, Kristen; brother, Theol Jr.; sister Elaine Orme and parents.

Funeral Services were held Nov. 28, 2001, in Riverton, Utah. Military and graveside services were held at the Brigham City Cemetery.
