Louise Sorensen Gowers
1914-2006
Louise Sorensen Gowers passed away peacefully on
November 24, 2006 at the family home in Nephi.
She was born December 3, 1914, the oldest daughter of
James Alfred and Josie Ann Memmott Sorensen. Following her
early years in Millard County she resided in Nephi
throughout her life except for serving missions for the LDS
Church in the Cleveland, Ohio/Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Mission and Knottsville Tennessee Mission with her loving
husband of 70 years, Ronald Merle Gowers. Louise and Ronald
were married April 17, 1934 in the Manti LDS Temple where
they also served two Temple Service Missions
together.
Louise and Ronald were successful dry land wheat
farmers and poultry growers in Juab County, and Louise also
worked as a secretary and Book Keeper at the Nephi Rubber
Works.
Louise and Ronald are known in Nephi for their lovely
home and yard, always a profusion of flowers, which was
recognized with the Salt Lake Tribune Civic Beautification
Award in 1993. They are also known for their many artistic
crafts which are widely spread throughout the west, and were
frequently displayed and recognized at the Juab County Fair.
Ronald was the builder and Louise the finisher. They were
insistent that each family member and grandchild had a
crafted item which they had made.
Louise is survived by a sister Beth (Max) Curtis;
three sons, Ronald Blain (Gwen), Fred Lewis (JoAnn), Kent
Lamar (Sheri); and daughter, Myrel (Delbert) Mitchell; 15
grandchildren, 39 great-grand children, and 3
great-great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her
husband, her parents, two sisters, Edith Dearden and Nellie
Stephensen, five brothers, Boyd, Cleo, Leland, Darrell and
Rex Sorensen, and one great-grandson, Kenneth Blain
Gowers.
The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to the
Central Utah Hospice staff, particularly Tiffany Hurst and
Gloria Wickel, for their kind and loving care during
Louise's last illness. The family is indebted to Marygray
Jensen, Sarah Hatch, Krista Herman, Ann Hinkle, Sue Green
and Donna White for their loving care and devotion during
the last years of Louise's life.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 28, 2006
at 11 a.m. at the Nephi Third Ward, 345 East 5th North,
Nephi, Utah. Internment in Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi,
Utah.
