Nephi is considering the flow of the present sewer
system.
A report was made which considered the flow from the
south Nephi ares to the present sewer lagoons which are
located on the north side of the community.
Aqua Engineering completed a study on the sewer lines
and the city is now studying the results of that study.
"The report is still being critiqued," said Randy
McKnight, city administrator.
McKnight said that 1300 South represents a break in
the topography of the community. The sewer flow goes south
from that area. The study indicated that there was adequate
storage capacity.
"There was one pleasant surprise," said McKnight. "We
thought the line consisted of 8-Inch pipe but it turned out
to be 10-inch pipe."
The biggest feeder in the sewer system is located near
the lagoons. That line is 18-inches.
More work needs to be done on interpreting the study
and its meaning for the future development of the sewer
system.
The study also considered the acreage available for
residential use and then assumed a population density so
that the necessary future capacity might be judged.
"No land west of Main Street was included in the
study," said McKnight. There is a major trunk line used to
transport sewage for that area of the community.
The pin-point area of the study was Main Street East
of the city. There are several new subdivisions in the area
such as Stone Ridge Ranches, Sun Ridge, Kirkland Heights,
Covington Ridge and South Towne.
The new elementary school, Red Cliff Elementary, has
been proposed to be built in that section of Nephi on the
east side of Main Street.
The gravity flow from Sun Ridge goes south, said
McKnight.
"We think the main lines, sized in the mid-1980s,
would be adequate," said McKnight.
Further consideration will be given the study and more
discussion will be had by council members on the long-term.
