A temporary suspension of an ordinance will allow
construction workers to live this winter in RV parks in
Nephi.
The workers would have had to move from one park to
another every 30 days had not the ordinances been
waived.
"The construction of the Current Creek Power Project
has brought a large number of construction workers looking
for temporary housing into our community," said Randy
McKnight, city administrator.
Those workers were looking for temporary housing in
the city but were limited by an ordinance of Nephi City.
"Many of the workers bring their own travel trailers
and need to have access to utilities and other services
provided by recreational vehicle (RV) parks," said
McKnight.
However, city ordinances limited the length of stay in
such parks to 30 days.
The council agreed to waive the ordinance and grant
more than a 30 days stay in such parks during a portion of
the construction of the power plant.
"This is something we also did when the pipeline was
being constructed," said Greg Rowley, council member.
"The state does limit the time a temporary ordinance
can be in place," said McKnight. "The state limits all
temporary ordinances to a six-month time frame."
The six month extension, beginning immediately, would
take the temporary ordinance time frame to July 1, 2006.
"The council can consider another six-month extension
at that time," said McKnight.
