Times-News Correspondent Mona Town Council members desire to have a new community building and have been trying to find ways to fund such construction. "We really need to do something," said Darlene Fowkes, council member. "We had the elections here (at town hall) there was no place for people to wait to vote. It was cramped and uncomfortable." Rick Schnurr, council member, and Fowkes had met with members of the Six County Agency who work with communities to obtain funding for needed improvements. "They felt that, maybe, we could get a grant for $50,000 and a loan for no interest or low interest for the remainder," said Schnurr. Mayor Bryce Lynn said the building could be approximately 40-feet by 100-feet or even 80-feet. "That would be a good size for our community's needs." "They thought that we could make it, just the shell you might say, connected to that other building where we have a kitchen and a restroom," said Fowkes. Whatever the council decides, said Schnurr, the Six County organization will work with Mona Council members to facilitate. Fowkes said the American Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements that all public buildings meet certain requirements for public access to toilets by the physically disabled still needed to be addressed. City hall doesn't meet that criteria. That issue was also discussed with the Six County Agency personnel. |
