Elwin Grant Goble
He was born Apr. 26, 1909, in Nephi to George L. and
Maysel D. Ingram Goble. He married Jewell Marteen Hansen
Jan. 18, 1935. Their marriage was later solemnized in the
Manti LDS Temple Sept. 16, 1936.
He is survived by his wife of Nephi; children, Larry
Grant Goble and Ronald Merrill Goble of St. George, Carolyn
Olson of Snoqualmie, Washington, Elwin Brent Goble of Nephi;
15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John
Goble of Salt Lake City, and George (Jerry) Goble of Denver,
Colorado. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Burke
Goble.
Elwin was born and raised in Nephi. He moved to Murray
in 1958 and returned to Nephi in the late 1970s after he
retired. He grew up in a sheep herding family. He was
employed at Thermoid Rubber Co. in Nephi and later at Rubber
Engineering in Salt Lake City. He enjoyed gardening, deer
hunting, loved to play horse shoes, fishing, and reading.
Funeral services were held Nov. 13, 2000, at Anderson
Funeral Home. Burial in Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi,
Utah.
Don Jones
Don Williams Jones, age 58, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000,
at his home in Kanab, Utah. He was born Dec. 8, 1941, in
Nephi, Utah, to Elta Orton and Bert Theodor Jones. He
married Margaret Sue Arnoldsen Sept. 15, 1962, in Moroni,
Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS
Temple.
Don started working at the age of 14, and never missed
a day of work for sickness in the last 38 years. He was a
member of the Utah National Guard for four years, and then
worked as a sales representative for 32 years for Pexton
Wholesale. The last five years he has been an Area Sales
Representative for Nicholas and Company.
Don enjoyed the outdoors, and loved Disneyland and
Christmas. He was an active member of the LDS Church, and
served as a counselor in the Kanab Third Ward Bishopric,
High Priest Group Leader, and Scoutmaster.
He is survived by his wife, Sue, of Kanab; sons, Corey
Don (Lisa) Jones of Provo, Karl Trent (Teri Jo) Jones of
Kanab, Cary Bert (Trisha) Jones of Nephi, Kim David
(Deborah) Jones of Kanab, and Kris Tyler Jones of Kanab;
brother, Ted (Donna) Jones of Nephi; sister Marie (Wayne)
Bostwick of Las Vegas, Nevada; and ten grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held Nov. 11, 2000, in the Kanab
Utah Stake Center. Burial in the Kanab Cemetery under the
direction of Mosdell Mortuary.
Gerald Newton
Gerald Warren Newton, age 84, passed away Nov. 11, 2000,
in Nephi, Utah.
He was born Oct. 3, 1916, in Mona, Utah, to Warren
Harlo and Rachel Hilda Carter Newton. He married Ellen Madge
Summers Nov. 3, 1938, in St. George, Utah. The marriage was
later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple Feb. 1940.
He spent most of his life in Mona except for a few
years in Salt Lake City when he worked for Remington Arms,
in Clearfield for Hill Air Force Base and for Utah Light and
Traction. He worked at the Rubber Plant in Nephi retiring
after 33 years. During this time he also farmed in Mona. He
enjoyed sports, travel, music, and farm life. He was active
in civic affairs serving as Mayor of Mona for 4 years and on
the Town Board for 26 years. He also served as Ward Clerk of
the Mona Ward for several years.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Madge Newton;
children, Barbara (Ken) Beardall, William Harlo (Karen)
Newton, Hal Summers (Debra) Newton, all of Mona; 18
grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren; sister, Nila
Summers of Salt Lake City, and a brother, Sterling Newton of
Provo. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ross, and a
son, Robert.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday,
Nov. 15, 2000, in the Mona LDS 2nd Ward. Friends may call at
the church from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services. The burial
will be in the Mona Cemetery.
