Bruce Bryan
1936 ~ 2015
Bruce Kay Bryan was born July 14, 1936 in Nephi, Utah. He was the youngest child of Bent Bryan and Lela Newell. He was raised on the family farm near mountains, which became a significant foundation for his life. From an early age he developed a passion for hunting and fishing. He graduated from Juab High School in 1954. He then followed the example of his older brothers and enlisted in military service. While stationed in Germany, a significant parachuting injury curtailed his Army career, and he was honorably discharged in 1957. After returning home, he served an LDS mission to the western states for two years. After his mission, he spent a significant time in Yellowstone Park, working many jobs while finding time to fish.
Bruce received university degrees in English, Mining Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering. During his schooling he met Sandra Curtis (divorced). They married in 1969 and had four sons. After working some time in the mining industry, he switched careers and worked for the United States Postal Service in Denver, where he continued working until he was 75 years old.
Sadly, dementia cut short his retirement fishing plans. He moved to Bend, Oregon to be closer to family and to receive needed care. After only living a few months in Bend, he succumbed to illness, and passed away September 25, 2015.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents Bent and Lela, his brothers Newell and John, and his infant son Theron. He is survived by sons Brad (wife Tracey), Benjamin (wife Shawna), and Curtis (wife Gabriella), and grandchildren Samantha, Elise, Ethan, Abigail, Theron, Sydney, Lucas, Joshua, and Isabel.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, October 4th in Bend, OR.
