Emerson Cook
1925-2006
Emerson T. Cook returned home to his Heavenly Father
on Oct. 22, 2006 at age 81. He was born Oct. 14, 1925 to
Thomas Henry Cook and Anna Elizabeth Nielson Cook in
Fountain Green, Utah. He graduated from Moroni High School
and attended Utah State University for one year. He joined
the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943 at age 18 and served in
World War II as a ball turret gunner on a B-17. After the
war, he returned to Fountain Green leaving only to attend
gunsmith school in Denver and Brigham Young University in
Provo. He married LuJane Christiansen of Fountain Green in
the Manti Temple on July 7, 1948. They had three children,
Joseph Dean, Dwight Emerson, and Gwen. They have 14
grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Emerson was a farmer and livestockman in Fountain
Green raising turkeys, sheep, and cattle for over 50 years.
He was an active member of the LDS Church serving in many
callings including Ward Clerk, Seventy, Elders Quorum
Presidency, High Priest Group Leader and Manti Temple
Worker. He proudly served on the Fountain Green City
Council, the Fountain Green Irrigation Company Board and the
Fountain Green Lions Club. His greatest loves were his
family, his church, his farm, hunting, fishing for salmon in
Idaho, and skiing.
He is survived by his wife LuJane; 3 children, Joseph
Dean (Ruth) Cook of Fountain Green, Dwight Emerson (Patti)
Cook of Fountain Green and Gwen (Neal) Peacock of Castle
Dale; 13 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. He is
also survived by two brothers, Pershing J. (Darlene) Cook of
Bel Fouche, South Dakota and Thomas Kayle (Barbara)
Cook of St. George, UT. Preceded in death by his parents,
brothers Ralph, Joseph, and Kermit Cook and sisters Phyllis
Memmott and Odessa Olsen and by his beloved grandson Thomas
Joseph Cook.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006,
at 11:00 a.m. in the Fountain Green LDS Chapel. There will
be a viewing from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, and
from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral at the Fountain
Green Chapel. Interment will be in the Fountain Green
Cemetery under the direction of Rasmussen Mortuary.
