K.E. Motes
Kempton E. Motes, age 80, passed away Oct. 1, 2003 in
Nephi, Utah.
He was born Aug. 15, 1923 in Solomonville, Arizona, to
Charley Ernest and Zilpha Kempton Motes. He married Betty
Jean Pew Jan. 31, 1946 in Mesa, Arizona. Their marriage was
later solemnized in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple April 3,
1947. They made Nephi their home the past 57 years.
Kempton served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Italy
as a Platoon Sergeant. He was awarded the Purple Heart,
Service Medal with 3 Bronze Battle Stars, and a Bronze Star
Medal with an Oakleaf Cluster.
He worked for Nephi City for 25 years, as a Nephi City
Policeman and for the Nephi City Water Department. Kemp
started competitive calf roping and team roping in 1950
throughout all the western United States. He won 14
championship saddles, numerous belt buckles, trophies and
various awards. The last saddle K.E. won was in 1998 at the
age of 75. He was a member the Rocky Mountain Rodeo
Association, winning 6 championships, the most cherished
with his son Phil Motes in 1975 while K.E. was age 52 and
Phil was age 15. While working with horses, his many titles
included, horse trainer, horse trader, horseshoer, amateur
Veterinarian (Motes' Miracle Medicine), recreational
gambler, and cowboy.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, of 57 years and
children, Anna (Billy) Lunt, and Bill (Cheryl) Motes, all of
Nephi; 9 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren; 1 brother
and 3 sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4
sisters, 2 brothers and son Phillip K. Motes.
Funeral services were held Oct. 7, 2003 in the Nephi
Stake Center. Interment in Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi,
Utah.
Ivy Anderson
Ivy Andrea Christensen Anderson was born Oct. 29, 1905 in
Moroni, Utah, to James A. and Hansena Peterson
Christensen. She was the fourth of six
children.
She married John H. Anderson Nov. 7, 1927 in Salt Lake
City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS
Temple on July 14,1960. John preceded her in death May 15,
1970. She lived her entire life in Moroni. Ivy was a
dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints. She started the Cub Scout program in the Moroni
Stake. She also served as the drama director, ward Primary
President, and Stake Primary President for 16 years, as well
as serving in many other church callings.
Ivy was preceded in death by her husband, John, 3
bothers, 2 grandsons (Brent and Boyd), and 2
great-grandchildren (Trent and Cassidy).
She is survived by her children: Norma (Vertis) Bodily
of Lewiston, Helen (Duane) Anderson of Nephi, John C.
(Donna) Anderson of Taylorsville, and Ross Anderson of
Deplained, Illinois; 2 sisters, Elsa Hatch of American Fork,
and Mary Christensen of Moroni; 18 grandchildren; 36
great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren
(with more on the way).
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003
at 1:00 p.m. in the Moroni Stake Center. Friends may call
Wednesday from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Stake Center
with burial to follow at the Moroni Cemetery.
Harold and Bonnie Gividen
Harold and Bonnie (Annie Laura) Gividen of Mapleton,
Utah, passed away together Monday morning Sept. 29,
2003.
They spent Sunday, Sept. 28, together celebrating
their 55th wedding anniversary.
They served together as temple workers at the Provo
LDS Temple for many years. Harold was retired from the Air
Force as Lt. Colonel, was a pilot in WWII. He served a
mission for the LDS Church in Texas, where he met Bonnie.
They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
They are survived by six living children: Chuck
(Rhonda) Gividen of Victor, Montana, Julie (Lynn) Poulson of
Ephraim, Floyd (deceased), Peggy (Lynn) McQuivey of Nephi,
Becky (Lance) Chapman of Genola, Amy (Brett) Merkley of
Corinne, and Norman (Julie) Gividen of Payson. They also had
50 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Harold is
survived by one brother, Bert and four sisters, Rhea,
Kathleen, Georgene, and Mary Jo. Bonnie is survived by one
sister, Mary Helen.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003
in Mapleton, Utah.
