John Fowkes
John Wallace Fowkes passed away Sept. 26, 2003. John was
born in Nephi, Utah, Nov. 17, 1909, the first son and second
child of Ruby Downs and Heber James Fowkes. He attended
school in Mona and Nephi. He married Jean Larson on March
18, 1936 in the Manti LDS Temple.
John worked as a mechanic for Arch Browning Buick. He
later worked as a service manager for Streator Chevrolet.
After his retirement he worked for National Car rental at
the airport until he was 81 years old.
John was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. He served in many positions, including
Bishoprics, and Home Teacher. He served with his wife as a
Temple Worker in the Baptistry at the Salt Lake Temple. He
became a member of the Olympus Male Chorus.
John is survived by his wife, Jean; daughters, Suzanne
(William) Nesbitt, and Jacqueline (Dahl) Maxfield; 7
grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 2
great-great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Mabel Kay of Mona,
Bessie Park Jones of Nephi, and Melba Cowan of Layton. He
was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 3
sisters.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003 at
the LeGrand Ward, 1078 McClelland Street, Salt Lake City, at
11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the ward Wednesday from
10:00-10:45 a.m. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, Salt
Lake City, Utah.
