Casey Reynolds, Juab Special Service Fire District
Chief, and Lynn Bateman, Levan Fire Chief, addressed the
Levan Town Council about the town adopting the state policy
concerning fire burning.
Bateman said that the state has a closed fire season
proclamation that each town must adopt. The town can make it
more strict, but not less strict. This proclamation
basically covers how and when a person can safely burn.
According to Reynolds, the fire chiefs didn't have a
clear-cut direction from the towns on how to enforce the
laws. This is where the policies came into effect.
Reynolds stated that now it is up to the towns to
decide how to issue the permits.
Rod Wankier made the motion to adopt the state closed
fire season proclamation. Those who want to obtain a burn
permit must contact the Levan Fire Chief as well as calling
the Sheriff's Office to inform them of any burning.
