An Arizona man was found dead on Forest Service land on Mount Nebo.
Joseph LaFaso, 68, Maricopa, Az. was found dead at about 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 23.
"Some people saw him laying there and reported what they had seen to dispatch," said Juab County Sheriff Alden Orme.
The man was found in Pole Canyon, he said. "He was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound."
Sheriff's Deputies responded to the scene, said Orme.
Deputy Craig Ryan is a medical examiner and he conducted an on-scene investigation and declared LaFaso dead at the scene.
LaFaso was taken by ambulance to Central Valley Medical Center and LaFaso's family in Arizona was contacted.
"LaFaso had been in the canyon for a few weeks," said Orme. "He told my deputies that he was visiting because he needed to have a change of climate."
"My deputes were also told of LaFaso's medical problems," Orme said. "They took an interest in him and were checking on him regularly."
For some reason, the man took a turn for the worse and determined to take his own life.
LaFaso's family claimed him and his belongings, said Orme.
