The grand opening for the new splash pad at the Nephi Swimming Pool was a big hit with kids of all ages. Even the parents enjoyed the new facility which includes a grassy area for lounging. New lounge chairs are available for those who just want to be a spectatpr or sunbathe.
Mayor Mark Jones, council member Lisa Brough, Miss Nephi Kerissa Branch and her attendants, Kennedy Cowan and McKinzey Wickel cut the ribbon to officially open the new addition to the community pool.
Three young patrons had their numbers called out and they were able to come into the facility first to activate the water features. The lucky winners were Haleigh Everitt, Megan Welburn and Logan Jones.
During the day, patrons participated in drawings for some cool prizes such as sunglasses, water guns, water sharks, and Airheads. They were all treated to a free snow cone.
Patrons were able to play with the new water features including several spray toys, water jets, and dump buckets. Unfortunately, the tidal bucket with the eagle on top decided to be stubborn and was not operational opening day. Mayor Jones said it was "Murphy's Law", but reassured patrons that it would be a very fun feature.
When asked about the grand opening, Brough said it went very well and estimated the total number of patrons at over 450. With those kinds of numbers, the staff and lifeguards will be kept busy for the rest of the season.
What were some of the favorite features?
Sam Gibson, Nephi, said he liked the diving board the best, but he also enjoyed the new slide in the splash pad.
Savannah Petersen, Nephi, said she enjoyed the water buckets in the splash pad.
Shari Cowan, Nephi, said she enjoyed being able to sit with her little one, Sydnee, while she played in the shallow water. Her other kids, Karlie and Taylor, thought the animals that shoot water and the slides were the most fun.
