"My Fair Lady" was the theme for this year's Miss Juab County Scholarship Pageant held Monday, August 8. Twelve contestants, representing our county, modeled "Women of the Past" wear and evening dress, answered an onstage question about their Woman of the Past, and wowed the crowd with their various talents.
Amanda Brooks was crowned 2011 Miss Juab County. For her talent, she performed a musical theater number, "Woman", from the Broadway musical "The Pirate Queen". She represented Betsy Ross as her Woman of the Past and talked about her love of the American flag and what it represents for her onstage question. She is the daughter of Stony and Stacy Brooks of Levan.
Camie Jacobsen was crowned 1st attendant. For her talent she performed a piano solo entitled "Just a Dream" by Justin Esplin. She represented Eleanor Roosevelt as her Woman of the Past. She is the daughter of Wade and Diane Jacobsen of Nephi.
Alexa Nielson was crowned 2nd attendant. For her talent she presented a video showcasing her talents of softball, basketball and rodeo. She represented Gloria Swanson as her Woman of the Past. She is the daughter of Lex and Elisa Nielson of Mona.
The new royalty will reign over this week's fair events.
Pageant chairperson, LouAnn Thalman, made a special presentation to LaRue Pexton and JoAnn Tolley for their combined service to the fair of 85 years. They will be "retiring" from their service this year, but expect to see them still down at the fairgrounds helping where they can. Thalman also presented Linette Smith, Fair Board Secretary, with flowers for her service. She will be retiring from the board this year.
Outgoing royalty are Camee Coombs, Queen, Emma Clement, 1st attendant, and Madison Finch, 2nd attendant. They shared their favorite memories from last year's fair and wished the new royalty good luck.
