Phyllis B. Brown
1931-2005
Phyllis Mary Blackham Brown, departed this life
quietly, in the afternoon of the 25th of July 2005. She
joins her beloved, departed husband Ted in a joyous reunion
with her other family members beyond the veil.
She was born March 5, 1932 in Fountain Green, Utah, to
Ace Walter and Norma Elsie Mikkelsen Blackham. She is
survived by her younger sister, Faye Ockey (Earl) of Salt
Lake City, and her baby brother, Bevin Ace Blackham (Carol),
of Moroni, Utah.
She spent her childhood in Moroni and graduated from
Moroni High School in 1950. She later graduated from Snow
College in Ephraim, Utah. She attended Utah State University
in Logan where she received her teaching certificate. She
later received her Bachelors degree from Brigham Young
University. She taught elementary school in Preston, Idaho;
Nephi, Utah; and Santaquin, Utah. Later she taught special
education at Payson Junior High. She loved learning, and was
always teaching and sharing her discoveries with others. She
had a special love for those who were less lovable.
She was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-Day Saints where she enjoyed teaching Relief
Society and being a visiting teacher. She loved her family,
her neighbors and her ward members. She was a voracious
reader, and could never read enough on any subject. She had
a special love for her kitties, Cleo and Minx.
She met her husband at the Silver Maple gas station in
Nephi, Utah and were later married on June 10, 1959 in Ely,
Nevada. They were blessed with two daughters, Elizabeth and
Margaret. They were sealed as an eternal family in the Manti
Temple. They were loving and faithful parents. Mom instilled
in us a love for learning and a fascination with everything.
We went on many trips exploring the deserts and canyons
surrounding Nephi.
She is survived by both daughters Elizabeth Brown of
Salt Lake City, (partner, Kara Cope); Margaret Steward,
currently serving an LDS mission in Houston Texas (husband,
Travis). Grandchildren: Daina, Ben, Hannah, MaryKate, Sam,
Jacob and Lecia.
A very special thanks to the nurses, aids and staff at
Heritage Hills for their loving care during these past
months.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July
28, 2005 in the Nephi 5th Ward, 345 E 500 N. Interment will
be in the Nephi Vine Bluff Cemetery.
Tim Carter
1932-2005
Tim Carter, age 72, passed away July 31, 2005 in
Nephi, Utah.
He was born August 22, 1932 in Nephi to Lyndon Leroy
and Virginia May Scottorn Carter. He married Marjene
Shepherd, later divorced. His partner at the time of death
was Vera Hubble.
He attended West Point and served in the Korean War in
Army Intelligence. He attended the University of Utah, was a
Real Estate Broker , an Insurance underwriter and Financial
Planner. He owned four restaurants, City Center and Blue
Whale in Provo, Hobble Creek in Springville and one in
Spanish Fork.
He is survived by his children, Timothy Jon (Jamie)
Carter and Jim Laver (Cindi) Carter all of Scottdale, AZ;
Desiree (Axel) Bjerkoe of Oslo, Norway; a sister, Ann
(Doyle) Coombs of Nephi, UT; a brother, Jim L. (Myda) Carter
of Nephi, UT; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, Lynn and Gyppe Carter, a
brother, Jack L. Carter, a sister, Patsy Iverson; 2
grandchildren, Tina and Michael.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday,
August 3, 2005 at the Anderson Funeral Home, 94 West 300
North Nephi, UT. Friends may call one hour prior to the
services. Interment will be in the Fillmore City Cemetery at
1:30 p.m.
Elaine Lewellyn
1933 - 2005
Elaine Fowkes Lewellyn, beloved mother and grandmother,
died Monday August 1, 2005 at the Central Valley Medical
Center surrounded by her family. She was born June 30, 1933
in Nephi, Utah to Louise Broadhead and Thomas Gerald Fowkes.
She married John Carl Lewellyn July 20, 1951 in the Manti
Temple.
She was an active member of the LDS Church and served
many years as secretary of the Sunday School and as the ward
Single Adult representative. She worked for many years at
the First Security Bank in Nephi.
She loved traveling and being with her friends and
family, especially, her grandchildren and great
grand-children.
She is survived by her children Colleen (Marlin)
Yates, St. George, UT; Cathy (Brent) Andersen, Santa Clara,
UT; Carl (Diane) Lewellyn, Nephi, UT, Eleven grandchildren
and 17 great grand-children, brothers and sisters; Hal
Fowkes, Magna, UT; ReNee Belliston, Orem UT; Sharon (Lynn)
Balle, Taylorsville, UT; Lee (Jean) Fowkes, Nephi, UT; Don
(Charlyce) Fowkes, Las Vegas, NV.
She was loved and cherished by her family and friends
and will be greatly missed.
Family and friends may call at the Anderson Funeral
Home, Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Friday
from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., prior to the funeral services that
will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Nephi, UT North Stake
Center, 1125 N. 400 E. Interment will be at the Vine Bluff
Cemetery.
