A bid was awarded, for construction of a foot-bridge
across Salt Creek at 800 East in Nephi, with a tag
attached.
Nephi City Council members agreed to award the bid
subject to the city staff verifying compliance with the
engineer's specifications.
The low bidder was Bo's Construction in the amount of
$5,380 for the foot bridge across Salt Creek at 800 East
Street.
"The city received five bids," said Randy McKnight,
city administrator.
Since the bridge design was done by an engineer and
since the city staff had some questions about all of the bid
meeting those engineering standards, McKnight said, the
staff would contact the engineer and review the
specifications with him.
At question was the material being proposed for the
span, which must support 6-inches of concrete. The bidder
has proposed using 18-inch galvanized gage material for the
support because the span must meet the state high standard
for decking in order to support that much weight.
"The design of the bridge was done by an engineer and
he has certified that calculations are correct and meet
state standards," said McKnight.
McKnight said staff will, therefore, check the specs
with the engineer just to make certain what gage must be
used to reach compliance.
"The foundation and footings for the bridge have been
previously installed," said McKnight.
For that reason, he said, some concrete work will need
to be done at the site but, mostly, the work will match the
previous concrete and the new bridge concrete work.
The bidding process this time was refined so that all
those bidding bid on the same thing which made the procedure
more fair to all.
