Thelma Christensen

Thelma Ockey Christensen, age 92, leaves a loving family after living a full and complete life, August 4, 2002 in Nephi.

She was born February 17, 1910 in Nephi to Willard John and Zelnora Webb Ockey. She married Lorin Joseph Christensen December 27, 1933 in Nephi. He passed away August 11, 1984.

She lived her entire life in Nephi, graduating from Nephi High School. She was active in community service for many years. She helped design and decorate floats for the annual Ute Stampede. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Above all she loved being with her children, grandchildren and friends.

Survived by her daughters, Loree (Carl) Memmott of Nephi; Nan Nielson of Delta; Barbara (Quentin) Covert of Hyrum; 12 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by a son-in-law, Bud Nielson, two sisters and five brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 8, 2002 in the Nephi Stake Center , 351 North 100 West. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, 94 West 300 North and at the church one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Vine Bluff Cemetery Nephi.


Newell Bracken

Newell Hugh Bracken, age 78, passed away Aug. 4, 2002, in Orem, Utah.

He was born Oct. 27, 1923, in Nephi, Utah, to Rulon Heber and Tacy Johanna Irons Bracken. He married Evelyn Blackett May 24, 1947, in Nephi. Their marriage was later sealed in the Manti LDS Temple.

He graduated from Juab High School and Utah State University. He was in the ROTC at Utah State and served in World War II and the Korean War. He was Commander of the 145th Field Artillery in the Utah National Guard and retired as Lt. Col. He worked for U.S. Steel where he retired. He loved to putter around in the yard and grow beautiful gardens. He loved woodwork and built a lot of furniture.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; 6 children, Sharon Ramos of Portland, Oregon, Laurel (Jack) Daniels of Las Vegas, Nevada, Mike (Kathy) Bracken of Logan, Jennifer (Joe) Gee of Highland, Patricia (Clair) Larsen of Lindon, Gayle (Bubba) Avilla of Orem; 15 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dwain (Joyce) Bracken, Franz (JoAnna) Speters; sister, Mary (Hugh) Steele. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Glenna.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, in the Lindon 3rd Ward, 25 North Main. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi, at 1:30 p.m.
