Where are the parents?
That is the question council members would like
answered as they deal with juvenile problems. Mona City Park
has been the site of a spate of vandalisms and city council
members are tired of the problem.
One thing the council is asking is that those who live
around the park area call and let one of the council members
know or call and let the Sheriff's office know when there
are suspicious-acting individuals at the park.
"We do have a curfew in Mona," said Darlene Fowkes,
council member. "Where are the parents?"
She suggested council members ask the Sheriff's office
to assist in the effort to crack down on the acts of
vandalism by picking up kids who are out after curfew and
taking them home to their parents. In addition, the
juveniles should be charged with breaking curfew.
Lorna Squire, park superintendent, said she thought
the city should approve the installation of hinges on the
doors of the park restrooms. The hinges should keep the
doors closed which would stop the doors being left open for
easy access.
Another installation at the toilet facilities would be
toilet paper holders which would not allow a whole roll of
toilet tissue to be removed at once.
"Vandal-proof toilet paper dispensers are available,"
said Bryce Lynn, mayor.
Kids are also kicking the tops off the pop-up
sprinkler heads and are doing other destructive things to
park property.
In addition to parents renewing their commitment to
provide proper parenting, the city could also use the help
of community members who notice juveniles committing acts of
violence.
"They should be reported," said Fowkes.
