The Juab County Fair officially began with the crowning of the 2000 Miss Juab County Pageant held Monday, Aug. 7. Eight contestants competed for the title. Chad P. Winn, Fair Board President, opened the event with a few words of welcome. Mike Cowan and LouAnn Thalman served as MCs for the evening. Nettie Smalley, daughter of Fred and Julie Smalley of Levan, was crowned Miss Juab County. For her talent, she performed ballet on point to "The Music Box" from "Forgotten Carols." Lynsey Stoddard, daughter of Mark and Leanne Stoddard of Nephi, was selected 1st Attendant. She performed "Rhapsodie Mignonne" by Carl Kholling on the piano. Mary Dawn Sperry, daughter of Craig and Mary Lou Sperry of Nephi, was selected 2nd Attendant. She performed "Prelude in C Sharp Minor" by Rachmoninov. The contestants competed in interview (completed earlier in the day with the judges), evening dress, street dress, talent, and on stage question. Special performances were presented by Diana Lynn, Miss Juab County 1999; Lindsey Wright Callahan, Miss Juab Attendant 1999, Mike Cowan and Lou Ann Thalman, vocals; Chad P. Winn, Cowboy Poetry; Diana's Dance Works, and Lisa's Dance Shoppe. Wm. Boyd Howarth, Juab County Commissioner, presented the awards to the new Royalty. The new Miss Juab County, and her Attendants, will reign over the activities of the Juab County Fair which opens to the public on Thursday, Aug. 10, at 3:00 p.m. |
