Helen Worthington
1923-2006

Helen Karren Winter Worthington, age 82, peacefully returned to the arms of her Heavenly Father on Tuesday July 4, 2006. Helen was born November 28, 1923 in Levan, Utah. She was the youngest child of Christian Jens Winter and Clara Otilia Paystrup Winter. Helen was baptized June 12, 1932 a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She attended the small town school and later Juab High School and BYU. Helen married Murren Dean Worthington June 1, 1945 in the Manti LDS Temple. This marriage was celebrated on June 1, 2006 of 61 years.

Helen's example as a hard worker was prevalent throughout her life, both in her church callings and professional work. In her LDS church activity, she performed in many callings including Primary chorister, Patriarch scribe, Relief Society president and extraction worker for temple names. Some of these callings she held for over 10 years. She worked at the County Welfare Services, First Security Bank in Nephi until her retirement.

Helen's talents included her love of playing the piano; singing in the ward choir, and crocheting beautiful afghans. She was an avid reader and uncommonly wise about common things. She was admired and loved for her exemplary strength. If there was one theme for her life it was that of quiet service to friends, family, and strangers around her. Helen loved her grandchildren and looked forward to holiday celebrations to be with her family. Family picnics in the canyon were always one of her favorites. She had a wonderful gift of making each person she came in contact with feel that they were a special person in her life.

Helen is survived by her devoted husband, Murren Dean Worthington, in Nephi, Utah; one brother, Dennis Christian Winter, who lives in Goodyear, Arizona, and one sister, Virginia Johanna Winter Irons, who has been her constant companion for the last two years at Heritage Hills. Surviving children are: Kathryn (Daniel) Legare, Reno, Nevada, Bryce Worthington, Nephi, Utah, Scott (DeEtte) Worthington, Nephi, Utah, and Suzie (Scott) Makin, American Fork, Utah, Grandchildren: Steve Trimble, Amy Smith, Jason Legare, Camille Griffiths, Shannon Worthington, Jesse Hamblin, Traci Worthington, Marissa Makin, Angela Hamblin, Heath Makin, and Darrin Makin.
