Cotton Rosser has been associated with the Ute Stampede Rodeo for 50 years. To honor him for his continued contributions he has been named Grand Marshal for the 2006 Ute Stampede Mammoth Parade. He grew up in the city, forcing the ranch way of life even though it did not come easy for him. He cleaned horse stalls to keep his dream of ranching alive. He had his first test with a cattle herd on Catalina Island during WWII. He was successful as a teenage rodeo athlete and earned his way on to the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Rodeo team. He made team captain and went on to win many awards at the collegiate level as well as earning his pilots license. A ranching accident in 1955 forced him out of competition. In 1956 he partnered with Dick Pascoe and bought the Flying U and started providing stock and producing rodeos. The Ute Stampede is one of five rodeos that Cotton has been with for 50 years. Cotton received and award for "Master Showman" at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. He has been the Showman of the Year, Stock Contractor of the Year, and inducted into the PRCA Hall of Fame. He has been known for years as an expert in finding new specialty act talent. It is with great pleasure that we recognize Cotton Rosser and the Flying U for 50 years of service to the rodeo industry and say "Thank You Very Much." |
