Several up-and coming cowboys from the Western Circuit
participated in the Ute Stampede this season.
Several of those cowboys took top places in various
events.
Forest Bramwell in the Bareback Riding Event was one
of those. He placed first in the event in the Ute Stampede
with a score of 80.
The 28-year old cowboy from Pagosa Springs, Colorado,
joined PRCA: 1999
He has three Wrangler NFR Qualifications from
(2001-03): Pace Picante Series qualifications: 5; Pace
Chute-out: 2001-03; Pace Challenge: 2003; Pace Classic:
2003.
He was educated at Laramie County Community College
(Cheyenne, Wyoming.), degree in automotive tech; University
of Wyoming (Laramie), associates of science in personal
training.
In 2005, he was co-champion in the Wrangler Tour round
and won the aggregate title at La Fiesta de los Vaqueros
(Tucson, Arizona.) He 2004, he won Old Fort Days (Fort
Smith, Ark.).
As an amateur he was a College National Finals Rodeo
qualifier (1997-99).
"In addition to rodeo, I like mushing (sled dogs),
art, skiing and weightlifting," he said.
He also works as an outfitter and guide for sled
dogging in Pagosa Springs, Colorado.
"I Use the hot springs in Pagosa Springs to heal my
aching bones," he said.
His parents, Gary and Faye, have an outfitting and
guide business.
In 2004, he had a string of injuries (broken back in
Jackson, Miss., in February, then broke his wrist the end of
July and finally tore his ACL in the fall) which kept him
out of competition most of the year.
Matt Shiozawa in the Tie-Down Roping (Calf Roping)
Event is a 25-year old cowboy, from Pocatello, Idaho.
Shiozawa placed first in the Calf Roping event at the
Ute Stampede with a time of 8.7 seconds.
He joined PRCA: 1999 and qualified for the Picante
Series once and for the Pace Challenge in 2002. His 2003
World Standings Place was 24th.
He was educated at the Vernon (Texas) Regional Junior
College.
In 2004 he won Lehi Round-up and the Ramona
(California.) Round-up rodeo.
As an amateur he was the National High School Rodeo
Association team roping champion (1998).
"My hobbies include sports," he said.
Nat Fly, Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, scored the highest
for first place in the bull riding event at the Ute
Stampede.
The rodeo was good to him. To date his high score had
been 81.0 points.
The total prize money available in the Bareback riding
event at the Ute Stampede was $1,191.30.
Bramwell Forest, Pagosa Springs, Colorado, won first
place in the scored event with a score of 89 on the back of
826 /Sundowner for a prize of $1,191.30.
Jess Davis, Payson, (No. 8 in Wilderness Circuit
standings) and Wyatt Hancock, North Las Vegas, Nevada, split
second/third with a score of 76 and a prize for each of
$776.15. There was a three-way split for four/fifth/sixth
with cowboys Mac Erickson, Malta, Idaho, Vic McDowell,
Bowie, Texas, and Josi Young, Buhl, Idaho, each earning a
score of 73 and a prize, each, of $288.80
The Steer Wrestling Event had a total purse of
$4,987.50. Brook Colledge, Lehi, had a timed score of 6.1
seconds to take first place and a prize of $1,446,37; Cody
Thacker, also of Lehi, had a score of 6.6 for second and a
prize of $1,197; T. W. Parker, Wendall, Idaho, had a score
of 7.0 for third and a prize of $947.62; Kyle Dahl, Ogden,
earned a time of 7.9 for fourth place and a prize of
$698.25; J.C. Malone (No. 9 in the Wilderness Circuit in the
event), Hooper, came in fifth with a time of 8.3 for a prize
of $448.87; and Darrin Allred, Erda, was sixth with a time
of 8.6 and a prize of $249.37.
The total purse available in the Saddle Bronc event
was $4,655. Rusty Allen (No. 4 in the Wilderness Circuit),
Lehi, took first place with a score of 83 and a prize of
$1,536.15; Levi Berry (No. 11 in the Wilderness Circuit),
had a score of 82 and earned a prize of $1,163.75; Chet
Anger, Fielding, earned a score of 79 and took third place
and a prize of $837,90; Shawn Morehead (No. 3 in the
Wilderness Circuit), Bear River, and Matt Marvel (No. 2 in
the Wilderness Circuit) split fourth/fifth with a score of
78 each for a prize of $442,22 each, and Deke Huffacker (No.
18 in the Wilderness Circuit), Woodruff, won sixth place
with a score of 77 for a prize of $232.75.
Tie Down Roping (Calf Roping) had a total purse of
$5,272.50. Matt Shiozawa (No. 3 in the Wilderness Circuit),
Chubbuck, Idaho, earned a time of 8.7 seconds for a prize of
$1,529.02; Kyle Kosoff (No. 13 in the Wilderness Circuit),
West Haven, took second place with a time of 10.0 for a
purse of $1,265.40; Justin Truman (No. 24 in the Wilderness
Circuit), Huntington, placed third with a time of 10.1
seconds and won a prize of $1,001.77; Jason Vohs (No. 20 in
the Wilderness Circuit), earned a time of 10.4 for fourth
place and a prize of $738.15; and Jessie Loveless, Payson,
and Olin Hannum (No. 8 in the Wilderness Circuit), Odgen,
split fifth/sixth for a prize of $369.07 each.
In the Team Roping Category the total purse available
was $7,571.50. Trampus Quarnberg, Annabella, and Brad
Freeland, West Haven, earned a time of 7.9 to win first
place and the prize of $1,097.86 each; Austin Christensen,
Spanish Fork, and Jason Rindlisbacher, Lake Shore, had a
time of 8.0 for second place and a prize of $908.58 each;
Kelly Clement and Trent Clement, Utah, earned third place
with a time of 8.2 for a purse of $719.29 each; Ryker Sweat
No. 7 header in the Wilderness Circuit), Heber, and Cody
Wade (No. 4 in the Wilderness Circuit in the All-Around),
Heber, won fourth place with a time of 8.3 and a prize of
$530. each; and Brady Siddoway, Hooper,and Brett Siddoway,
Hooper, and Craig Richens, LaPoint, and Chance Abplanalp,
Roosevelt, split fifth and sixth place with a time for each
team of 8.8 seconds and a prize for each person of
$264.99.
The total pay-off purse in the Women's Barrel Racing
event was $4,838.40. Ten prizes were awarded in the
event.
Stephanie Jones, Spanish Fork, had a time of 17.55
seconds for first place and a prize of $1m016.06; Norma
Wood, West Jordan, placed second with a time of 17.59
seconds and won $870.91; Mckensie Brower, Rigby, Idaho,
placed third with a time of 17.61 and earned a prize of
$725.76; Britney Adams, Overton, Nevada, won fourth place
with a time of 17.66 and a prize of $628.99; Chrissy Van,
South Jordan, and Terri Wood Gates, West Jordan, split
fifth/sixth with a time for each of 17.69 and a prize of
$435.45 each; Jessica Miller, Panguitch, had a time of 17.75
for seventh place and a prize of $290.30; Andrea Jones, Twin
Falls, Idaho, eighth place had a time of 17.89 and won
$193.53; Shana Gibson, Ogden, had a time of 17.90 for ninth
place and a prize of $145.15; and Cindy Woods, Sherwood,
Oregon, had a time of 17.96 for a prize of $96.76.
The Bull Riding Event had a total purse of $4,275.
First place went to Nat Fly, Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, for a
score of 90 which brought a payoff of $1,410.75;
second/third place split went to Louis Schardine, Spanish
Fork,and Shawn Proctor (No. 14 in the Wilderness Circuit),
Tooele with a score of 87 each which earned a prize of
$919.12 apiece; Wesley Silcox (No. 2 in the Wilderness
Circuit), Payson, took fourth place with a score of 86 for a
payoff of $513; Carson Grimm, Huntington, earned fifth place
with a score of 80 for a prize of $299.25; Brad McKee (No. 6
in the Wilderness Circuit) Riverton,and Travis Swenson, Lake
Shore, both earned scores of 76 and each took home a $106.87
prize.
