The Ute Stampede awarded $38,507.40 in prize money at
the event in 2004.
Team roping is a timed event in which two cowboys
participate. Winners of this event were: first and second
split, Brian and Chad Espenscheid and Doyle L. Gellerman and
Paul Dunn, both teams with a time of 6.7 seconds and a
prize, each of 41,186.28; third was Olin and Jake Hannum
with a time of 6.8 seconds and a prize of $850.54 each;
forth/fifth was split between Wes Pulham and Wade Cooper and
Jon Stafford and Ira W. Walker with a time of 6.9 seconds
and with a prize of $514.79 each; sixth went to Hustin
Hodson and Brad Freeland with a time of 7.2 and a prize of
$223.82 each.
Total prize money for the team roping event was
$8,953.10.
Calf Roping is a timed competition and winners in that
event were: first, Chet Keetch, with a time of 9.4 seconds
and a prize of $1,786.25; second, Olin Hannum with a time of
11.8 seconds and a prize of $1,016.31; third and fourth were
split by J.C. Malone and Hugh Baldwin, each with a time of
12.1 seconds and a prize of $1,016,31; fifth, Ryan McCourt
with a time of 12.3 seconds and a prize of $554.35; and
sixth Travis Pendleton with a time of 12.6 seconds for a
prize of $307.97.
Total prize money for calf roping was $6,159.50.
Steer Wrestling is also a timed event with first place
going to Tom Lewis with a time of 4.6 seconds and a prize of
$1,617.47; second went to J.C. Malone with a time of 4.7
seconds and a prize of $1,338.60; third was Shayne E.
Bennett with a time of 4.9 seconds and a prize of $1,059.72;
fourth went to John Lewis with a time of 5.1 seconds and a
prize of $780.85; fifth went to Ryan E. Shaw with a time of
5.2 seconds and a prize of $501.97; sixth was split by Coby
Jones and Mark Parker each with a time of 5.3 seconds and a
prize of $139.43.
The total purse for steer wrestling was $5,577.50.
Top prize winners for the bull riding event were:
first, Brandon Wallentine, with a score of 80 and a prize of
$1,773.35; second, Shane Gordon scored 75 and won $1,343.45;
third, Steve Woolsey scored 74 and won $967.28; fourth place
was a split between Jerry Shepherd and Sonny Murphy who each
scored 72 and won $510; sixth was also a split between
Brayden Buchanan and Ty Thorpe who each scored 71 and won
$134.34.
Total purse for the bull riding event was
$5,373.80.
In the saddle bronc event winners were: first, Ira
Slagowski with a score of 81 and a prize of $1,536.48;
second, Anthony Bello with a score of 78 and a prize of
$1,164; third was split between, Stormy Sagers, Chet Anger,
Rusty Cornia, and Derrick Huffaker each with a score of 74
and a prize of $488.88.
Total purse for the saddle bronc event was $4,656.
Winners in the barrel racing event were: first, Jackie
Dannelly with a time of 17.37 and a prize of $912.24;
second, Megan McLeod with a time of 17.42 and a prize of
$781.92; third, Shanna Gibson with a time of 17.45 and a
prize of $651.60; fourth was Jessica Miller with a time of
17.52 and a prize of $564.72; fifth was Terri Wood Gates
with a time of 17.56 seconds and a prize of $434.40; sixth
was Jill Atkinson with a time of 17.72 and a prize of
$347.52; seventh was Tonia Adams with a time of 17.75 and a
prize of $260.64; eighth went to Chelsea Talbot with a time
of 17.81 and a prize of $173.76; ninth went to Kathie Jo
White with a time of 17.84 and a prize of $130.32; and Jetta
McCormick with a time of 17.86 and a prize of $486.88.
Total prize in the barrel racing event was $4,344.
Winners in the bareback riding event were: first, Paul
Jones with a score of 81 and a prize of $1,136.35; second,
Billy Wall with a score of 80 and a prize of $860.87; third,
J.T. Cox with a 79 score and a prize of $619.83; fourth
place, John Wright, with a 75 score and a $413.22 prize;
fifth place was split by James Pettit, Bud Munns, and Josi
Young, who each scored 72 and won $137.73.
Total purse for bareback riding was $3,443.50.
