Herman Young
Herman Ashbel Young, age 93, passed away July 3, 2004
in Nephi, Utah, after struggling with pneumonia for several
weeks. He was born January 14, 1911 in Mona, Utah, to John
Osborn and Bertha Molyneaux Young. He married Alice Johnson
November 28, 1934 in the Manti LDS Temple.
He lived in Mona most of his life. For a time in his
youth the family moved to Salt Lake City. He was educated in
Salt Lake City, Mona and Nephi. After his marriage to Alice
he worked in the mines at Lark. He was active in the LDS
Church, serving in the bishopric, and many other callings.
He was active in his community in many organizations. He was
County Commissioner, President of the Cattlemen's
Association, President of Mona Irrigation Company, served on
the town board, member of the Juab ASCS Committee and on the
board of the Soil Conservation District. His love of the
land was evident in all his endeavors.
He is survived by his wife, Alice of Mona; five sons,
John Bryant Young of Gandy, Morris (Vickie) Young of
Farmington, New Mexico, Bruce (Mitzi) Young of San Dimas,
California, Thomas (Patsy) Young of Walla Walla, Washington,
Gordon (Holly) Young of Mona; 24 grandchildren; and 29
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son,
Herman Glade Young.
Funeral services were held July 6, 2004 in the Mona
LDS Chapel. Interment in the Mona Cemetery.
Marica Sperry
Marica Louise Kelsey Hicks Sperry, age 74, passed away
Friday, July 2, 2004 at her home of cancer in Nephi, Utah.
She was born March 21, 1930 in Eureka, Utah, to Arthur
Franklin and Myrtle Louise Skinner Kelsey. She married James
McKean Hicks March 11, 1948. He preceded her in death. She
later married Roscoe D. Sperry. He preceded her in
death.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. She loved genealogy and crocheting.
She is survived by her son, Michael Earl Hicks;
brothers and sister, DeVere (Donna) Kelsey of Nephi, Randy
(Diane) Kelsey of Payson, Kenneth (Kathleen) Kelsey of
Benjamin, Gary (Lori) Kelsey of Mapleton, Ralph (Carla)
Kelsey of Payson, RaNae (Garth) Hazel of Centerfield. She
was preceded in death by David LaVar Winn; parents; brother,
Sherl A. Kelsey; sister, Marla Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday,
July 7, 2004 in the Nephi Stake Center, 351 N. 100 W.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the
services. Interment will be in the Spanish Fork City
Cemetery at 2 p.m.
