On Friday, July 2, 2004, Nephi City and it's residents
were treated to a sight rarely seen in small-town America.
Reminders of the 9/11 Twin Towers tragedy made a brief stop
at the Nephi City Park. They included thirty-three tons of
World Trade Center steel and a damaged FDNY Fire Engine.
Residents of Nephi congregated on the south side of the park
to view these humbling reminders of that tragic day.
The convoy is part of the Freedom's Flame Memorial
Foundation. The Freedom's Flame Memorial is a gift from the
people of California to the state of New York in recognition
of the sacrifices made by so many on September 11, 2001. A
duplicate memorial is planned for Southern California,
linking west and east coasts.
The convoy made an appearance at the Freedom Festival
in Provo on Saturday morning, July 3 before moving on to Las
Vegas on July 4.
