Jay Coombs
Jay Dee Coombs, age 73,passed away June 26, 2003 at
his home in Fountain Green, Utah.
Born March 22, 1930 in Roosevelt, Utah, to Alvin
Andrew and LaVon Emma Smith Coombs. He married Patricia Ann
Hildebrand on March 7, 1952 in the Manti LDS Temple.
Jay received education in Fountain Green and Moroni
schools, as well as attending vocational school in 1952, for
refrigeration and air conditioning. He was employed with
Geneva Steel for 15 years and retired in 1991.
Jay was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in the Central and
West Central states from 1949-1951 as the district
president. He also served two missions with his wife,
Patricia, from 1996-1998 in the South Washington DC Mission
and from 1998-1999 for the Moroni Stake cannery. Jay loved
his calling as a temple worker for many years.
Jay enjoyed farming, raising sheep, hunting,
prospecting and riding horses, and being outdoors. In his
younger days, he also enjoyed boxing. He boxed all through
Jr. High and High School, as well as at Lamb Day. He never
lost a fight.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia; his
children, David (Deby) Coombs, Mark (Karla) Coombs, Bill
Coombs, all of Fountain Green, Lynn (Merrill) Kay of Nephi,
Jason (Michelle) Coombs of Tucson, Arizona; 14
grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren; brothers, Garn
(Carolyn) Coombs of Springville, and Doyle (Ann) Coombs of
Nephi. He was preceded in death by his parents and a
brother, Boyd Coombs.
Funeral services were held June 30, 2003 in the
Fountain Green 2nd Ward. Interment in the Fountain Green
Cemetery.
