Near Mills in Juab County, on Friday, June 29, a man was
found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The 21-year old man from California was found in his car
on Friday at 7:38 a.m.
"Vernon Monroe had driven past the same spot on Thursday
at 6 p.m. and the car was not there," said David Carter,
Juab County Sheriff. "He called dispatch at 7:38 a.m. On
Friday after he noticed that the man in the car was not
moving."
When deputies responded to the scene they found the young
man dead and an obvious suicide, said Carter. Foul play was
not suspected.
"When we contacted his mother, who lives in California,
she said she had seen him the week before," said Carter.
"His sister reported that she had seen him on Tuesday of
that week."
The young man had pulled off the Yuba freeway exit
sometime after 6 p.m. Thursday or during the early morning
hours on Friday, said Carter. He then traveled along the
frontage road on the back way to Mills.
Deputies Craig Ryan, Ryan Nichols, and Gary Corbin all
responded to the scene, said Carter.
The body was taken to the state medical examiner's office
and the investigation of the case is continuing.
