Nephi City's budget procedure was completed on Tuesday
when the council adopted the certified tax rate for the
year.
The certified tax rate adopted was set at .001515 for
the year 2000.
"The certified tax rate is the rate calculated to
raise the same amount of revenue from property tax as in the
previous year from the properties that were taxed last
year," said Chad Brough, mayor.
He said new growth will provide additional tax
revenue.
"The budget process for the new year is completed when
the council set the property tax rate for the year," said
Brough.
Property taxes become due in November 2000.
Nephi set a public hearing for Tuesday, Aug. 15,
to take comment on a zone change request.
The hearing will begin at 7 p.m. in council chambers
and is set to last for one-half hour. Council meeting will
then be held at 7:30 p.m.
"The owners of property in northwest Nephi have
requested a zone change," said Chad Brough, mayor. "They
want the zone changed from R-18 to Combined Use or to a
residential district that will allow a four-plex apartment
complex to be constructed on the property."
"The property is the west part of the old Nephi Lumber
complex on 200 North Street."
Legally the property is identified as the northwest
quarter of block 44 Plat A of the Nephi Townsite survey.
"The council must hold a public hearing before
considering the zone change request," said Brough.
The annexation petition by the LDS Church to
annex the Orgill Gravel Pit adjacent to Nephi City proper
will be advertised for a protest period.
Blair Painter, Nephi City Recorder, read a letter to
the city council which certified that the petition had met
all the legal requirements and was ready for the next step
in the process.
"That step is for the petition to be advertised for a
protest period," said Painter.
