A new fire started Saturday near Highway 28 in Juab County on June 19.

Utah Fire Info said that fire officials have named it the MM17 Fire because it started at mile marker 17 on the highway.

Fire officials had not determined what caused the fire as of Sunday, June 20, but estimated it had burned approximately 150 acres.

“This evening, Saturday, air and ground resources were able to gain 50 percent containment on the MM17 Fire and held it to an estimated 150 acres,” said Utah Fire Info.

The fire is located east of the highway, burning in grass and dry brush. The closest city is Levan, which is north of the fire location.

The MM17 Fire was first reported at 4 p.m., and is 50 percent contained. It’s cause is not yet known.

Air and ground resources are actively engaged in direct suppression tactics.

“The fire cause is under investigation,” said a tweet by Utah Fire Info.

Multiple resources are on scene and crews are working to secure lines on the North and South flanks of the fire.
