Jessie May Hansen Sudweeks
Jessie May Hansen Sudweeks, 84, of Springville, formerly
of Nephi, died peacefully June 23, 2004 at Utah Valley
Regional Medical Center in Provo of causes incident to age.
She had complete faith in the reality of life after death
and in the eternal nature of family relationships. She
longed to be reunited with her departed husband and son. Now
her prayers have been answered.
She was born Aug. 29, 1919 in Fountain Green, Utah to
Clarence W. and Etta May Jensen Hansen. She attended school
in Fountain Green and graduated from Moroni High School in
1937. She married Raymond Sudweeks in the Manti LDS Temple
May 25, 1938 and lived in Nephi for 61 years until his death
in 1999. She loved to sew and was an accomplished
seamstress. At age 41, she fulfilled a longtime desire by
becoming a college student for the first time. She graduated
from Brigham Young University in 1964 and then taught home
economics at Juab High School for 17 years.
She was a loving wife and mother devoted to her
family. She exemplified faith, commitment, and perseverance
and actively worked at promoting family togetherness. She
loved teaching and was a kind, unselfish person who will be
missed by all who knew her.
Mother was an active member of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. She taught
Primary, Sunday School, Relief Society, and teacher
development classes. She also served as ward Primary
president and as a counselor in the stake Primary
presidency. She worked in the Family Record Extraction
Program for many years.
She is survived by five children including Richard
(Josephine) Sudweeks of Highland, Sheryl Lee (Herbert)
Wilson of Springville, DeRay (Christine) Sudweeks of
Taylorsville, Sonya (Vance) Gibson of Kaysville, and Connie
(Greg) Crandall of Springville, plus 29 grandchildren and 55
great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by a
sister (Iona S. Bailey of Nephi), two brothers (Kay Hansen
of Salt Lake City and Gordon Hansen of Sandy), and six
sisters- and brothers-in-law (Norma Hansen of Ogden,
Genevieve S. Wall of Provo, Beverly S. Gibson of Eden,
Venice Sudweks of Payson, and LaRue and J.R. VanAusdal of
Springville). She was preceded in death by her parents, her
husband, a son (Raymond Maurice), a sister (Jewell Goble),
and a brother (Willard).
Funeral services were held in the Nephi Third Ward
chapel, 345 East 500 North, at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 28.
Friends may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Anderson Funeral
Home, 94 West 300 North, in Nephi, or at the chapel Monday
from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Interment at the Nephi City
Cemetery.
Charles Tolley
Charles Kenneth Tolley, age 60, died June 24, 2004 in
Delta, Utah. He was born February 3, 1935 in Nephi, Utah, to
Claude and Verlie Morris Tolley.
He attended Nephi schools, graduating from Juab High
School in 1953. He married Rayola Peterson March 30, 1956 in
Delta.
He is survived by his wife, Rayola, of Delta; sons,
Kenny (Suzanne), and Kevin of Reno, Nevada, Rick (Sheri),
and Steve (Kim) of Delta; 15 grandchildren; sisters,
Margaret Williams of Nephi, and Melba Cazier of Salt Lake
City. He was preceded in death by daughter, Brenda (Brad)
Reese; brothers, Jack and Glen; sister, Florence Graff.
Funeral services were held June 28, 2004 in the Delta
1st Ward Church. Burial in the Delta Cemetery.
Florine Higginson
Florine Taylor Higginson, age 72, passed away June 24,
2004 at her home in Nephi, Utah, after a courageous battle
with cancer.
She was born July 4, 1931 in Levan, Utah, to James
Orlando and Florine Warner Taylor. She married James
Lawrence Higginson June 3, 1951 in Elko, Nevada. He died
January 24, 1990.
She was a member of the LDS church.
She is survived by children, Roger (Hazel) Higginson,
Rodney (Robyn) Higginson and Nan (Shelly deceased) Elder,
all of Nephi, Carl (Lynn) Higginson of Monroe; 17
grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Lucille
Finley. Preceded in death by her husband; brother, Warner
Taylor; sister; Dorothy Belliston.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday,
June 30, 2004 in the Nephi North Stake Center, 1125 North
400 East. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to
the services. Interment will be in Vine Bluff Cemetery,
Nephi, Utah.
Hazel Jones
Hazel Maurine Ingram Bean Jones, age 90, died June 26,
2004 at the Castle Country Care Center in Price, Utah. She
was an only child born Sept. 10, 1913 in Nephi, Utah, to
Mary Bean and Samuel Edward Ingram. She lived in Nephi for
83 years before leaving for health reasons.
She married Meryl Eugene Bean June 14, 1937 in Nephi.
Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
He died in 1951. In 1956 she married Bert T. Jones who
passed away in 1987. Hazel was a member of the LDS Church,
where she served in many callings. Her greatest love was
genealogy, handwork, reading and flower gardens.
Hazel is survived by her three children, Sharon
(George deceased) Hunt of West Valley, Mary (Berry deceased)
Franks of Salt Lake and Grant (Kathy) Bean of East Carbon;
step-children, Ted (Donna) Jones of Nephi and Marie (Wayne)
Bostwick of Nevada; nine grandchildren; nine
step-grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by both husbands, step-son, Don Jones, a
granddaughter DelRay Bean and a great-granddaughter Ashley
Horrocks.
Graveside services were held in the Nephi City
Cemetery on June 29, 2004.
