Candy Carter
Myrtle Waunetta Leafty "Candy"Carter, age 54, of Murray,
Utah, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2004 in Murray, due
to complications of cancer. Candy was born November 19, 1949
in Fall City, Nebraska, to James William and Iva Beulha
Leafty, the sixth of 17 children.
Candy was a member of the LDS Church. Candy grew up in
Nephi, Utah, was married and had eight children of her own
and 16 total through marriage.
Survivors include husband, Jeff Carter of Murray;
parents, James and Iva Leafty; children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Timothy; brother,
Issac Ray Leafty and an infant sister.
Funeral services were held June 12, 2004 at the Murray
South Stake Center. Interment at Murray City Cemetery.
Nellie Thomas
Nellie Higgs Thomas passed away June 10, 2004 at her
residence in Lyman, Wyoming, at the age of 80. Nellie was
born June 7,1924 in Panguitch, Utah, the daughter of Edgar
Ernest and Nellie Matilda (Lamoreaux) Higgs.
She married Ellis Norman Thomas on May 9, 1942. Their
marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on
June 27, 1962. He passed away on March 7, 1985.
She was a member of the LDS Church. She loved reading and
puzzles, watching baseball, cooking, playing card games,
shopping and ice skating.
Nellie is survived by four sons, Dennis (Glenda) Thomas,
Steve (Kay) Thomas, Calvin (Caren) Thomas, all of Lyman,
Wyoming, and John (Kelly) Thomas, of Henderson, Nevada;
three daughters, Dian (Storm) McNeil, Nancy Thomas, both
Lyman, Wyoming, and Margie (Shawn) Elder of Nephi;
twenty-three grandchildren, and thirty-two
great-grandchildren; brother, Jim Higgs of Napa Valley,
California; sister, Donna Ries of Roosevelt. She was
preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers,
Wallace, Glanville, and Ron; sisters, Cora, Elva and Madge;
a daughter-in-law, two grandsons and a great-grandson.
Funeral services were held June 15, 2004 at the Lyman LDS
Stake Center in Urie. Graveside service were on Tuesday
afternoon in the Levan Cemetery, Levan, Utah.
Frances Bainter
Frances Elizabeth Bainter, age 75, passed away June 14,
2004 after a long illness, at her home in Nephi, Utah.
She was born February 14, 1929 in Gadsden, Alabama, to
William Belle and James Elizabeth Atkerson Johnson. She
married Gordon Eugene Bainter in 1968 in Las Vegas,
Nevada.
She had a love for the outdoors and nature, especially
watching deer. She loved to travel with her husband and had
visited all lower 48 states. She had a knack for collecting
various collectibles, a special gift for taking pictures of
family and friends and researching family history.
She is survived by her husband Gordon Bainter; sons, Todd
and William Bainter and Ed LaRue; daughters, Jewel Freant
and Mary "Jessi" Hagerman; sisters, Mary Ellen Wood and Sue
Venable; 8 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her
parents and one sister, Jewel M. Butler.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June
19, 2004 in the Nephi 5th Ward, 345 East 500 North. Friends
may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson
Funeral Home, 94 West 300 North. Interment will be held in
Nephi Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi, Utah.
