Ned Johnson
J.E. "Ned" Johnson passed away June 23, 2003 in Provo,
Utah. He was born Dec. 16, 1914 in Salt Lake City to
Florence Luella Christensen and Joseph Erastus Johnson. He
had twin sisters that died in infancy and one younger
brother, Robert "Bobby" who also preceded him in death. He
married Nathala Clark, Dec. 24, 1936 in Salt Lake City.
Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
She preceded him in death Dec. 7, 1990.
Ned graduated from the University of Utah. He served
in the U.S. Army for 17 years achieving the rank of Major.
He moved his family to Nephi in 1946 and opened a grocery
store, Johnson's IGA. He owned and operated that store until
1969. Ned was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints and held many positions including High
Priests Group Leader, Gospel Doctrine teacher, Executive and
Finance Secretaries. He especially enjoyed being a Provo
Temple worker for several years.
Ned is survived by his three children, Julie (Don)
Ockey, Clark (Carol) Johnson, Drew (Debbie) Johnson; seven
grandchildren; and fourteen (plus one on the way)
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on
Saturday, June 28, 2003 at the Nephi 8th Ward Chapel, 222
South 100 East, with a viewing one hour prior to the
services.
Larry K. Harmon
Larry Kent Harmon, 60, passed away June 21, 2003 at
his home in Nephi. After being diagnosed with cancer over a
year ago, he continued to live each day to the fullest.
He was born October 20, 1942 in Preston, Idaho to John
Willis and Beth Jensen Harmon. He married Patsy Warthen
August 5, 1963. Their marriage was later solemnized in the
Manti LDS Temple on July 21, 1981.
He attended school in Soldier Summit, Nephi and
Spanish Fork, graduating from Spanish Fork High School. He
was involved in community and civic affairs where he served
on the Nephi City Council and in various leadership
positions on the local, state and national levels of the
Jaycee organization. He was a successful businessman,
building Harmon Tire Company upon principles of hard work
and outstanding customer service.
Larry was a devout member of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved the Lord and found
great joy doing His work. He served in various capacities
including 10 years in the Nephi Stake Presidency, where he
worked closely with the youth and planned many activities to
bring the Spirit into their lives. He also served as stake
missionary, sharing his love for the gospel with many. He
loved people and wherever he went he sought to bring souls
to Christ. His many acts of kindness and love will always be
remembered.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy of Nephi; three
children, Michelle Feaman of Spanish Fork; Kayla (Doyce)
Olpin and Trent (Lynette) Harmon of Nephi; father, John W.
Harmon of St. George; brothers and sisters, Janet (Reed)
Alderman, M. John (Sandra) Harmon, Paulette (Jack) Lomento,
Paul (Shauna) Harmon and David (Wendy) Harmon; and 12
beautiful grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his
mother, Beth Harmon and son-in-law, Bart Feaman.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 27, 2003 at
11:30 a.m. at the Nephi Stake Center, 351 North 100 West.
Family and friends may visit Thursday evening from 5:00 to
8:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, 94 West 300 North
and at the church from 10 to 11:15 a.m. prior to services.
Interment will be in the Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
the Missionary Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints.
Ralph McPherson
Ralph Neil McPherson passed away on June 18, 2003 in
Mission Hills, California. He was born on June 21, 1935 in
Mona, Utah.
After attending the University of Utah, Neil joined
the U.S. Navy. After his military service, he made his way
to southern California where he started his career in the
moving industry. After 21 years with Bekins, he retired and
pursued an additional career in the drapery industry.
Finally retiring in the 1990's, he spent his free time
pursuing his hobby of gardening and his specialty was rare
cactus and succulents. He also enjoyed traveling, art, and
gourmet foods.
He is survived by Andi, his wife of 31 years, and
their son Mark. He is also survived by his brothers Bert
(Sonoma), and Gordon (Karen) McPherson of Nephi, and his
sisters, Iona Kay Hair, Carol (Jim) Young of Auburn,
California, and Diane (Johnny) Bocker of Elk Grove,
California.
Graveside services were held June 23, 2003 at Vine
Bluff Cemetery, Nephi, Utah.
Brenda Reese
Brenda (Tolley) Reese, 41, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed
away June 12, 2003 of injuries sustained in a car
accident.
She was born May 7, 1962 in Nephi, Utah to Ken and
Rayola Tolley. She graduated from high school in Delta,
Utah. She married Brad Reese in Delta on Aug. 25, 1984.
She is survived by her husband Brad; children Derek,
13, Danielle, 11, and Braxton, 7; her parents Ken and Rayola
Tolley of Delta; and four brothers, Kenny, Kevin Tolley,
both of Reno, Nevada, and Rick, Steve Tolley, of Delta.
Services were held June 17 at Ammon LDS Stake Center.
Burial was in the Ammon Cemetery in Ammon, Idaho.
