As Nephi City plans to adopt the budget for the coming
year, the council is working on complying with state
law.
The council agreed to hold a public hearing prior to
the legal adoption date, in keeping with state law.
The hearing will be held on a Thursday, June 19, and
will begin at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers. Here copies of
the proposed budget will be on hand for review by interested
citizens.
"We will take public comment at that hearing," said
Randy McKnight, city administrator.
A special council meeting will then be held on Friday,
June 20, to adopt the budget. That meeting will, most
likely, be held at 6 p.m.
"By state statute, the council should adopt the budget
by June, 22," said McKnight.
That means that a public hearing needs to be held
prior to the adoption of the budget. Since it would not give
the council time to consider the public input they might
receive, if the budget were adopted the same night as the
public hearing, the council decided they would like to hold
the public hearing earlier in the same week.
"Typically, when the 22nd falls during the weekend,
the public hearing and meeting to adopt the budget are held
earlier in the month," said McKnight.
