H.E. Davis won the bid for the Nephi Municipal Airport
A.I.P. Project with the low bid of $1,224,805.
Four bidders submitted bids on the project with the
high bid coming in at $1,580,792.50, said Randy McKnight,
city administrator. McKnight was asked to report on the
project by Chad Brough, mayor.
McKnight said the bid amount was a happy surprise.
"I am very happy with the bids," said McKnight. "The
amount is less than anticipated. Since the bids were lower,
perhaps some of next year's work may be moved up to this
year."
Of course, that will depend on the federal government.
The city will need to apply to allow more of the work to be
bid in this calendar year. The federal government, who is
funding the project, will then determine if that work can be
done.
"Enough money would be left to do some of the apron
work," said McKnight.
Money for the project is coming from the federal
government in the form of a grant and will be awarded in
three years to cover three phases of construction.
All bids were due May 28 and bids were awarded at
council meeting on June 2.
"This part of the project is for excavating, fencing
and some electrical work," said McKnight.
During this phase of the project, a road, which Juab
County Commissioners voted to relinquish use of, will be
closed since earthwork needed to make the airport larger
will take place on a portion of the roadway.
"The county is going through the actions needed to
close the road," said McKnight. "A public hearing will be
required."
The city will be required to do some in-kind work as
part of the city's commitment in receiving the federal
grant. However, that work will be determined by the general
contractor.
Cramer and Noble will serve as general contractors of
the project. They were appointed by the council at an
earlier date to oversee construction of the three
phases.
"We will help out as needed," said McKnight.
