An airport consultant attended Nephi City Council meeting
to offer the services of his firm to the council as they
continue to work toward developing the city airport.
At a prior meeting, the council discussed a grant
application to be filed with the Utah Division of
Aeronautics for that agency's participation in the Nephi
Municipal Airport improvement project.
At Tuesday's meeting, Ryan Pritchett, a consulting
engineer and planner with Armstrong consultants, Inc., Grand
Junction, Colorado, told council members he had been
attending council meetings in several communities.
"We do a lot of work in Utah," said Pritchett. "Our
firm is currently working with the communities of Spanish
Fork and Springville on a joint venture to rehab the runway
of the two-city airport,"
Pritchett said his firm was especially good at land
acquisition.
"Last year, our consulting firm acquired 42 parcels of
land for eight projects with only one problem," he said.
Brent Bowles, mayor pro tem acting in the absence of
Mayor Chad Brough, said the best idea he could offer
Pritchett was to talk with city administrator, Randy
McKnight.
"I have been talking with him," said Pritchett. "He is
aware that we are available to help."
Spanish Fork/Springville are working on adding
6,000-feet to their runway, said Pritchett. "I understand
you are planning to add 7,200-feet."
However, Bowles told Pritchett that the land would be
added in two stages. The first phase of the project calls
for 6,300-feet to be developed.
Bowles also said the council had just agreed to
authorize Mayor Chad Brough to sign the project application
forms. The council also recently agreed to authorize Mayor
Brough to sign the grant agreement with the Utah Division of
Aeronautics for the airport improvements.
