Nephi City made two changes to a resolution governing
utility disconnections, guarantee deposits, and the appeal
process.
Denton M. Hatch, city attorney, made the changes in the
document as the council had earlier requested.
"Only two of the sentences were changed," said Hatch.
All accounts are due the city, as they were in the former
document, due on the 12th of every month. Accounts not paid
by the 12th will receive a delinquent notice requiring the
amount due by the 30th of the same month.
The notice will continue to state the amount due and will
state that if this amount is not paid by the 30th, action
will be taken to discontinue service.
The new addition to the resolution is that after
notification takes place, a late payment penalty of $10 will
be charged. In addition, 18 percent interest will be
charged.
In these cases, a new guarantee deposit is paid only if
one is currently not in place.
All connecting to electric, gas and water will pay a
guarantee deposit for electric, gas, and water service. The
deposit fee will be $150 for electric service, $10 for water
service or $20 if the water service is to a commercial
account.
A $25 re-connect fee is paid or $35 is charged if the
re-connection is requested outside of business hours.
A new effective resolution date was set with the bills
and statements, including arrears, which will become due on
or after Sept. 12, 2001.
In times of extreme cold weather or other hardship, a
limiter may be installed as an alternative to disconnection,
at the discretion of Nephi City.
"The new wording will help us with collections," said
Randy McKnight, city administrator. "It gives the city staff
more to work with."
