  • Mt. Nebo FFA receives two 1st places at state contest

Forty-one students attended the State FFA Contest in Logan this past week. There are 17 competitions and our chapter competed in fifteen of them.
Mt. Nebo FFA took 1st in the state in Agricultural Issues. Team members included Kylee Taylor, Shelby Garrett, Jaxson McPherson, Tate Shepherd, Carson Lovless, Brennan Sage and Leon Sherwood.
They presented on Water Use in Utah. The students gave a 15 minute presentation on any agricultural issue and had 7 minutes where they were asked questions.
Mt. Nebo FFA also won 1st place in Livestock Evaluation. Team members included Kylee Taylor, Mattie Sherwood, Jaxson McPherson and Rylie Wright. In this contest, students evaluate cattle, sheep, hogs and goats. Students judge a class of four animals and gave oral reasons on three classes.
Both of these teams will be representing the state at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana in October.
Receiving Gold ranking at state were Agricultural Issues, 1st; Livestock Evaluation, 1st; Agricultural Communications, 2nd; Dairy Cattle Evaluation, 2nd—Mattie Sherwood, 2nd high individual; Forestry, 3rd; Marketing Plan, 3rd; Meats Evaluation, Agricultural Technology and Mechanical Systems. and Vet Science.
Receiving a Silver ranking at state were Farm Business Management, Floriculture, Horse Evaluation, and Milk Quality and Products.
Receiving a Bronze ranking at state were Agricultural Sales, and Nursery and Landscape.
