The Lady Wasps clinched the Region 12 title on May 5 with an 8-0 record. They were awarded the trophy after the final home game against Carbon.
Senior McCall Sperry doubled twice and pitched the win on the mound in the home win (12-2) over the Dinos. Dakota Gee and Sydney Cragun hit a double, and Taylei Williams hit a triple.
(Editor's note: After the game, the two teams showed great sportsmanship and posed for a group photo. The Carbon High School community suffered a devastating blow on May 3 when 15-year old Kaitlyn Hansen, a member of the Carbon Drill Team, was killed in a car accident.)
The first round of the state tournament was rained out on Saturday, May 9, so on Monday, the postponed games were played at Juab.
The Wasps continued their winning streak over Tooele and snagged the narrow 7-6 win.
Sydney Cragun started things off with a home run to put the Wasps up 2-0. In the bottom of the 5th, Tooele would answer back 5-2. Taylei Williams hit a three run homer in the 6th inning and a single for the go ahead run.
Juab came back to tie it up 6-6 in the top of the 7th inning. By the 8th inning, Juab put the nail in the coffin and beat the Buffaloes, 7-6.
Savanna Greenhalgh hit a double in the game. Juab had 11 hits and 1 error. Tooele had 6 hits and 3 errors. Mid-State Consultants and Nephi Chiropractic were the Businesses of the Game (home runs were hit over their banners in the outfield).
The team will now move on in the state tournament when they play Juan Diego on May 14 at 2:00 p.m. at The Fields in Little Valley, St. George.
