Jungi Jay Shiozaki
“Eternal Gardener”


Jungi “Jay” Shiozaki, 89, passed away on May 11, 2009 in Nephi, Utah.
Born July 17, 1919 in Salt Lake City to Tsurumatsu and Tori Akai Shiozaki. Grew up on family farm in Mills, Juab County. Attended grades K-8 in the local one-room school house. Graduated from Juab High School in 1938 and later from BYU with degrees in chemistry and agronomy. Served in the Army. Married Mary Okubo on March 2, 1947, later solemnized in the Manti Temple. Worked for the soil conservation service for 33 years. Lived in Beaver, Provo, Price, American Fork, Manti, and retired in 1982 to Nephi.
Following his father’s retirement in the 1950s, he took over the family farm. Always worked hard. Enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and spending time with family. Well known locally for his beautiful garden and yard, which was his pride and joy. Every year he generously shared his vegetables and fruit with friends and neighbors. Active member of the LDS Church and local senior center.
Survived by Mary, his wife of 62 years; five children, Elizabeth Wade (Tucson, Arizona), Tom (Gerie) Shiozaki (Vernal), Susan (Ralph) West (Preston, Idaho), Nanci Shino (Salt Lake City), and Judy (Ken) Anderson (Wales), several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brother Kenichi Shiozaki, sisters Yuriko Matsuno and Miyoko Inouye, many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by brother Saburo Shiozaki, and son-in-law, Jeff Larsen.
Funeral services will be held in the Nephi 10th LDS Ward, 1125 North 4th East, at 12 noon on Saturday, May 16, 2009. Viewing will be held Friday 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, 94 West 300 North, Nephi, Utah. Friends and family may also visit 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to the service. Special thanks to Tiffany Hirst (his “angel”) for her devoted compassionate care and Dr. Taylor for his service and patience. Interment at Vine Bluff Cemetery under the direction of Anderson Funeral Home, Nephi.


 

Don Leland Johansen
1924-2009


Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather is rejoicing with his eternal companion, parents, brothers, sister and friends who have been awaiting him. Don passed away May 9, 2009, in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, at the age of 85. Don was born February 5, 1924 in Mt. Pleasant to Joseph Jr. and Sarah Olevia Johansen.
Don was raised in Mt. Pleasant and spent his life there. As a young man, Don played in a dance orchestra for many years and played on the high school basketball, football and tennis teams. He married his high school sweetheart, Dona Jeanne Pehrson, in the Manti Temple, June 16, 1943 and spent 64 wonderful years together before she passed away. Don spent most of his life as a farmer with Dona Jeanne always at his side. He received his Bachelor degree from Brigham Young University and taught business classes for 18 years at Juab High School. His hobbies have been fishing, hunting and enjoying his family.
He is survived by his children, Terry (Arlene) Johansen, Vicki (Terry) Johnson, Mark (Sue) Johansen, 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his dear wife, Dona Jeanne, parents, Joseph Jr. and Sarah Olevia, sister, Etta  Hayward, brothers, Vernon, Grant  and Wesley, two infant brothers.
Don has been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Don has been a great example to those around him, especially to his family. He has been a hard worker and will be dearly missed. He and Dona Jeanne helped support their 11 grandsons that have served missions for the LDS church.
We offer our “thanks and gratitude” to the staff at Autumn Park Assisted Living in Mt. Pleasant and Nephi, Hospice Care of Nephi for their kind and loving services. We  appreciate all you have done for our father and grandfather.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 14, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Pleasant 4th Ward Church, with the viewing that morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Family and friends may visit Wednesday, May 13, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Rasmussen Mortuary. Interment, Mt. Pleasant City cemetery.
