A man living on a property near Mona Reservoir attempted to take his life by closing his garage and leaving his vehicle running.
Alden Orme, Juab County Sheriff, said the man’s finance came to visit and found the man inside his vehicle inside his garage with the motor running. The man appeared to be asphyxiated but she pulled him from his vehicle and out of the garage. He began to come to, at that point.
“Deputy Jim Stephensen and I responded to the scene,” said Orme. “Just as we drove up, the man jumped up, got inside his vehicle and drove away.”
Orme said they followed the man up the steep terrain into the mountainous area. The man then left the truck.
“I followed him on foot and saw him sneaking through the brush,” said Orme. “The man followed my commands and we were able to take him into custody.”
The man was turned over to Utah County peace officers because of an earlier altercation he had with a son who lived in Payson. The man was wanted for assault in that situation.
“The man was depressed about his life situation,” said Orme. “He had encountered many problems and thought his family did not support him.”
