Evelyn Lomax
Evelyn B. Lomax, age 95, died peacefully on May 20, 2003
in Bountiful, Utah.
She was born Feb. 25, 1908 in Manti, Utah, to Horace
Glen Brown and Bernice Orna Tuttle Brown. She married Claude
Robert Lomax, July 16, 1934 in the Manti LDS Temple. They
resided in Nephi all 50 years of their married life.
Children are Nancy Laguillo, Thomas R. (Joan), Sally
Holbrook (Robert), Kathryn Anderson (Ron), and John G.
(Margy); 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 4
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
husband, one daughter (Susan), four brothers and one
sister.
She graduated with a BS degree in Home Economics and
English from BYU in 1929 and taught for 25 years. Her
devotion to her students brought a bond that extended far
beyond the classroom. She was active in local, district, and
state women's clubs serving in all capacities for over 35
years, including president of the Utah Federation of Women's
Clubs and Utah Women's Republican club. Member of the
Governor's Committee on the Status of Women and assisted in
writing a book on "Utah Status of Women." She served as the
finance chair for the DUP renovation and restoration of the
old Juab County Courthouse and was a member of the Nephi
City Library Board.
Thought out her lifetime, she served in many LDS
Church capabilities, especially enjoying citizenship
counselor for the Boy Scouts.
Funeral services were held on May 23, 2003 in the
Nephi 6th Ward. Interment in the Nephi City Cemetery Nephi,
Utah.
Frank Shepherd
Dellis Frank Shepherd passed away May 23, 2003 at the
Mountain View Hospital, Payson, Utah.
He was born Nov. 12, 1936 in Fountain Green, Utah, to
Glen LeRoy and Violet Emma Huggins Shepherd. He married Rose
Marie Moosman, May 31, 1958 in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage
was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple, Dec. 4,
1996.
He graduated from Moroni High School and received a
degree from Snow College. Frank worked for Bradshaw Auto
Parts for several years and later became part owner of
Superior Automotive Supply in Salt Lake City, Utah. He later
moved to Nephi where he owned Shepherd's Lodge and
Shepherd's Sportsman Supply. Before returning to Nephi to
retire he spent 3 years in Hurricane, Utah.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Rose of Nephi;
three daughters and one son, Roxane (Frank) Kilby of
Riverdale; Wendy (Dale) Woten of Payson; Pam (Gary) Behrmann
of Nephi; John (Chantel) Shepherd of Nephi; sister, Darlene
(Stan) Munk of Centerfield; three brothers, Derl (Penny)
Shepherd of Sterling; Don Kay (Cara) Shepherd of Gunnison;
Terry (Sandy) Shepherd of West Valley City; 12
grandchildren; 1 great-grandson and several step
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a
brother, Dex Shepherd.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made at any Wells
Fargo branch.
Funeral services were held May 27, 2003 in the Nephi
1st Ward. Interment in the Fountain Green Cemetery.
Arlin Sthephensen
Arlin C. Stephensen, age 87, passed away May 25, 2003 in
Payson, Utah.
He was born Dec. 11, 1915 in Levan, Utah, to Martin C.
and Christina Johanna Christensen Stephensen. He married
Nellie Sorensen Sept. 8, 1937 in Nephi, Utah. Their marriage
was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple Sept. 19,
1941.
He attended school in Levan and Nephi. He was member
of the LDS church. He and his wife, Nellie, served as dance
directors for many years for the Gold and Green Balls for
the Levan Ward. He loved horses and was a member of the
Silver Sage Riding Club in Levan. He enjoyed watching his
grandchildren participate in livestock shows and livestock
auctions and the Ute Stampede Rodeo. He retired from
Thermoid Rubber Products after 25 years.
He is survived by his wife Nellie of Nephi; children,
Arlene (Seth) McPherson of Nephi, Shirley (John) Bench of
Sandy, LaRue Lynn of Mona, Donna (Gaylen) Jarrett of Nephi,
Jim A. (Nellie A.) Stephensen of Nephi, Nan (Daniel) Taylor
of Genola; brother, Meril (Myrtis) Stephensen of Levan; 29
grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; and 4
great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a
son, Lynn C. Stephensen; brother, Levern Stephensen; sister,
Effie Anderson; great-great-granddaughter, MaKayla
McPherson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May
30, 2003 in the Nephi Stake Center, 351 North 100 West.
Friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the
Anderson Funeral Home, 94 West 300 North, and at the church
one hour prior to services. Interment will be in Vine Bluff
Cemetery, Nephi, Utah.
